Dundee v Hearts: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Hearts were the best of the rest in the Scottish Premiership last season and they should be full of confidence when they head north to face Dundee at Dens Park.

Dundee showed good resilience to come back from behind twice to draw across the road at Dundee United in their opening game, but Steven Naismith’s Hearts should provide a much sterner test on Saturday.

Games between Dundee and Hearts tend to be high-scoring affairs and hopefully that trend will continue when they lock horns once again at Dens Park in this one.

Dundee v Hearts betting tips and predictions

Hearts to win - 6/5

Hearts can look back on a positive recent record in this fixture when they head up the east coast to Dundee this weekend.

The Jambos have won all of their last three encounters with the Dark Blues, including a 3-0 success the last time these sides met at Tynecastle.

Hearts did lose at Dens Park at the start of last season but managed to win 3-2 against the Dee on their most recent visit later in the campaign.

Dundee have won just two of their last seven home games against Heats in all competitions and the Edinburgh outfit look to be good value to build on their draw with Rangers last time out and claim their first Premiership win of the season on Saturday.

Over 3.5 total goals - 13/8

Games between these sides have tended to be entertaining affairs with plenty of goals and spectators will be hoping for that trend to continue this weekend.

No less than 13 goals have been scored in just the last three meetings between these teams in the Premiership.

Hearts won two games, home and away, against Dundee last season 3-2, while the last encounter was that 3-0 victory for the Jambos.

Given Dundee were less than watertight against their old rivals Dundee United last time out, Hearts have the firepower to not only claim the win but also help drive up the goals total.

Over 3.5 total goals would have landed in two of the last three clashes between these sides and it’s well-priced to come in again at Dens Park on Saturday.

Lawrence Shankland anytime goalscorer - 20/21

The star man for Hearts last season, Lawrence Shankland will be hoping to bag his first Premiership goal of the 2024/25 campaign this weekend.

While Shankland failed to have the same impact with Scotland at the Euros in Germany over the summer, he does continue to be linked with a move to Old Firm outfit Rangers.

The Scot scored 24 goals in the Premiership last season, so it’s easy to see why the Gers would be interested in signing the former Queen’s Park academy star.

Shankland seemed to enjoy playing against Dundee last season as he has scored three goals in his last two games against the Dark Blues.

The Hearts striker will have fond memories of Dens Park after scoring an 87th-minute winner in the 3-2 victory for Naismith’s side on their last visit.

Given his liking for this fixture and with his strong recent goalscoring record, Shankland is certainly a player worth considering in the anytime goalscorer market for this one.
