Derby County v Coventry City: Free Tips, Prediction and Odds

Frank Lampard takes his in-form Coventry City side to Pride Park on Tuesday to face his relegation-threatened former employers Derby County in a crunch Championship showdown.

Lampard left Derby to pursue his dream of managing Chelsea and the Rams have since chewed through three permanent and two interim head coaches during an unsettled five-and-a-half seasons.

However, they think they have got the right man in position now after luring John Eustace from Blackburn Rovers and he got one over his former club at the weekend.

Derby’s 2-1 victory over Rovers ended a 12-game winless run and lifted them off the foot of the table.

But they will need to find something special again to overcome a Sky Blues side that have won nine of their last 10 games in the Championship.

And Eustace’s cause has not been helped by the addition of more players to the Rams’ injury list that could see him without 10 players for the midweek match.

Coventry to win by one goal - 11/4

Coventry may be the form horses in the Championship right now, but they have been leaving it late while giving up leads that may, on another day, have proved costly.

Aside from Bobby Thomas’ stoppage-time winner, timed at 97 minutes, on Saturday, the Sky Blues also benefitted from the defender’s late, late show against QPR last month.

And Ellis Simms completed his brace against Sheffield Wednesday with the winner in the 94th minute.

Not all of Coventry’s wins recently have been so dramatic, but they are becoming known for their relentless style when chasing games.

But, on the flip side of that coin, is the reason why they have been forced to dig deep in the final stages - they are not the most competent team in the division at holding onto their advantages.

Oxford United pegged them back twice the weekend before last and Stoke City took them to the wire last weekend when coming back from two goals down.

Each of Coventry’s last five games have been won by a solitary goal and that pattern could continue at Pride Park on Tuesday.

Derby have lost seven of their last 11 home games with six of those losses also coming by a single-goal margin.

Both Teams to Score - 1/1

A glance at Coventry’s defensive record will tell you that Derby can certainly go into the game with the belief that they can score on Tuesday.

Lampard’s side have conceded more goals than any other team currently residing in the top eight and as many as most of the clubs in the lower reaches of mid-table positions.

Despite being separated by 17 places and 24 points, the two clubs’ totals of shots allowed and shots on target allowed are not very different.

The Rams have faced 424 shots, only 12 more than Coventry, and have dealt with 143 attempts on target to the Sky Blues’ 132.

Derby’s attack may have only registered 35 goals in 36 games this term, but they should take confidence from their 2-1 weekend win over Blackburn into this clash.

Kane Wilson to score or assist anytime - 8/1

The return of former Exeter City and Forest Green Rovers wing-back Kane Wilson from injury helped the Rams become a more potent force on Saturday.

Derby missed one of their most dynamic attackers during his lengthy injury absence and their results suffered.

Wilson could be the hosts’ main dangerman down the right-hand side on Tuesday as he potentially goes up against a reshuffled Coventry backline.

Milan van Ewijk hobbled off with an injury on Saturday and may not be able to start, while Jake Bidwell will hope for a recall on the left-hand side.
