Crystal Palace v Luton Town: Tips, Predictions and Odds

Luton's exciting brand of football has gained them plenty of admirers this season but they remain four points from safety in the Premier League relegation battle and could desperately do with a victory when they face Crystal Palace.

The Eagles are not out of the woods yet either, they currently sit eight points above the drop after Roy Hodgson was replaced by new manager Oliver Glasner.

The pair face off in what is set to be an intriguing clash with major implications in the battle to avoid relegation.

Crystal Palace v Luton betting tips and predictions

Over 3.5 goals - 11/5

Luton have served it up to the biggest teams in the Premier League this season, attempting to go toe-to-toe with their opponents on their return to the top flight.

That has led to some exciting matches and some that the Hatters can rightfully feel aggrieved about coming out on the wrong end of.

A late winner for Aston Villa last time out after Rob Edwards’ men had come back from 2-0 down was a classic example of this and their manager looks unlikely to deviate from the game plan for the rest of the campaign.

Luton have fared much better than fellow promoted sides Burnley and Sheffield United so it is clearly something that has given them an edge.

Seven of their last nine league games have gone over 3.5 goals and a repeat of that could be on the cards when they visit Crystal Palace.

The hosts have struggled for goals all season but new manager Oliver Glasner appears to have placed a bigger emphasis on committing players forward and they were rewarded with a 3-0 win over Burnley in his first game.

They followed that by leading Tottenham for much of their last Premier League clash before Spurs netted three times late on to take the victory.

However, the small sample size of Glasner’s reign indicates they are willing to be more attacking and they can contribute to a high-scoring affair here.

The Eagles have seen five of their last seven matches produce four or more goals and under their new attack-minded manager, a repeat of that looks likely.

Luton are also suffering an injury crisis, particularly in defence where they are missing key men Amari'i Bell, Gabriel Osho, Tom Lockyer and Mads Andersen.

Edwards may have to field a makeshift backline and that can help contribute to a high-scoring game, so it is worth siding with over 3.5 goals.

Eberechi Eze to score at any time - 21/10

One of the biggest tactical changes in recent years in the Premier League has revolved around individual players being given more responsibility and that has certainly been true of Crystal Palace.

The Eagles have often relied upon players such as Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze to produce moments of magic.

With Olise injured, the burden of attacking responsibility looks set to fall mainly on Eze’s shoulders and he is fancied to get on the scoresheet.

The English international has six league goals in 14 starts this season as he has struggled with injuries but the playmaker has been in fine form whenever he has been on the park recently.

Eze has four goals in his last four games and could well add to that tally against a makeshift Luton defence.

Daiki Hashioka to be shown a card - 9/2

With injuries to Amari'i Bell, Gabriel Osho, Tom Lockyer and Mads Andersen, Luton are likely to play either inexperienced defenders or shift players out of position.

Daiki Hashioka is the latter, the right-back may be forced to play as a central defender here and looks a good candidate for a card.

The Japanese international picked up four cautions in 17 starts for Sint-Truiden in the first half of this season and out of position, may be overpriced for another.
