Two teams searching for their first wins of the 2024/25 Premier League season clash at Selhurst Park on Saturday, when Crystal Palace host Leicester City.
There was some relief for Palace before the international break when they came from behind to draw 1-1 at Chelsea, but the Eagles were previously beaten away to Brentford and at home to West Ham, and they will be under a fair amount of pressure to start winning as soon as possible.
As a newly promoted team, Leicester City are not as weighed down by expectation. They started with a 1-1 draw at home to Tottenham before suffering narrow losses away to Fulham and at home to Aston Villa.
Leicester or draw double chance - 5/4
Leicester have taken just one point from a possible nine but they are the highest placed of the newly-promoted teams and can increase their tally by avoiding defeat against Palace at Selhurst Park.
There will be no immediate pressure on Palace manager Oliver Glasner, who did such a superb job in the final three months of last season as he took the club from 15th place to a top-half finish.
However, the Eagles ran into some out-of-form teams during the run-in and finished off with a 5-0 triumph at home to Aston Villa, who had mentally tuned out after achieving their goal of UEFA Champions League qualification.
Glasner’s first full season with the club presents a tougher challenge and it has been made more difficult by the summer sales of influential centre-back Joachim Andersen and classy attacking midfielder Michael Olise.
Palace are still awaiting their first clean sheet of the league campaign and they have scored just two goals, including an own-goal from Brentford defender Ethan Pinnock in their 2-1 loss to the west London side.
Olise was hampered by injuries last season and made just 19 league appearances, five of them from the substitutes’ bench, but he contributed 10 goals and six assists and his departure has been a massive blow.
This season Palace have been more reliant on Eberechi Eze to provide moments of magic but Leicester will have a plan to deny time and space for the England international, and if they are successful, it could lay the foundation for a positive result.
The Foxes sustained single-goal losses to Fulham and Aston Villa before the international break but they have been competitive in every game and can take something away from their trip to the capital.
Under 2.5 goals - 11/10
Palace have been finding it harder to score goals and their contest with Leicester has the makings of a tight affair with few clear cut chances.
Leicester are likely to deploy a deep defence and could be tough to break down with hard-working midfielder Oliver Skipp patrolling in front of the back four.
The onus will be on Palace to raise the tempo but their fans may have to endure a frustrating afternoon.
Three of Palace’s last five home games with Leicester have generated less than three goals and another low-scoring outcome looks likely.
Harry Winks to be booked - 13/5
Harry Winks is Leicester’s most creative midfielder but he has a grittier side to his game and may need to show it in south London as the Foxes attempt to dig in and end a two-game losing sequence.
The 28-year-old collected nine yellow cards last season and he looks a worthwhile 13/5 shot for a caution this weekend.
