Crystal Palace v Chelsea: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Chelsea's winless run could extend to four games when they face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Saturday.

After winning five games on the bounce, the Blues were beginning to look like title contenders in mid-December, but they have since drawn with Everton and suffered consecutive shock defeats against Fulham and Ipswich Town.

Palace are slowly improving and followed up a decent draw at Bournemouth on Boxing Day with a home win over Southampton on Sunday.

Crystal Palace v Chelsea betting tips and predictions

Draw - 14/5

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was keen to point out during his side's impressive form earlier in the season that they were not ready to challenge for the title and he looks to have been proven right following recent results.

The Blues were expected to get the better of Everton at Goodison Park before Christmas, but were guilty of missing several good chances on Merseyside as they were held to a frustrating goalless draw.

The subsequent defeats to Fulham and Ipswich were surprising as they let a 1-0 lead slip at home to the Cottagers late on and then went down at Portman Road, despite again creating plenty of opportunities and dominating possession.

Saturday's London derby with the Eagles now looks like being a very tricky assignment as they face opponents who have only lost one of their last eight league games and are beginning to look like contenders for a top-half finish this season.

Selhurst Park has already proven to be a difficult venue for several other teams who have aspirations of finishing in the European places.

Oliver Glasner's side have earned draws at home against Newcastle, Manchester United and Manchester City, while also beating Tottenham.

With Chelsea's confidence wilting as they prepare for their first game of 2025, Palace can secure another creditable draw.

Jean-Philippe Mateta to score anytime - 12/5

Jean-Philippe Mateta looks set to be the most likely player to carry Palace's goal threat on Saturday as the French forward is the club's leading scorer with seven goals in all competitions this season.

Mateta may be slightly disappointed he's only hit four in the league so far as he aims to follow up on his fine tally of 16 top-flight goals last term and he will be keen to get on the scoresheet this weekend.

The 27-year-old has not scored for five games, but he has still been lively in attacking areas for Palace, attempting nine shots, three of which have been on target, during that spell.

Up against a Chelsea defence that has only kept four clean sheets in the league this season, Mateta is likely to get chances.

Will Hughes to be booked - 11/4

Will Hughes is Palace's most cautioned player this season, with the midfielder having received seven yellow cards already.

Unsurprisingly, Hughes has given away the most fouls in the Eagles squad with 34 free-kicks being awarded against him and he looks a prime candidate to pick up another booking this weekend.

Chelsea love to dominate the ball in midfield and Hughes will attempt to disrupt things as he competes with the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.
