Stuttgart returned from the international break with a well-deserved 2-0 win over bottom club Bochum in the Bundesliga on Saturday, the perfect lift ahead of their crunch trip to the Serbian capital to take on Crvena Zvezda.
Sebastian Honess' men have endured a mixed start to their league campaign - they were in the bottom half of the table before their weekend win over the bottom club - which has been mirrored in the UEFA Champions League.
There was no disgrace in losing 3-1 at Real Madrid or even succumbing 2-0 at home to impressive Italians Atalanta. But their 1-0 win at Juventus was surely one of the results of the competition so far and critical following their disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Sparta Prague.
So the win over Bochum was well-timed and welcome and will fill them with confidence for the trip to Belgrade where, even with a depleted strikeforce, they should still be too strong for Crvena Zvezda.
Vladan Milojevic's side can do no wrong domestically. After just 14 rounds of fixtures they are already 11 points clear and out of sight in the Super Liga. They have scored 44 goals and shipped just eight in those 14 games and retaining their title for an eighth straight season looks a formality.
In Europe, however, they continue to struggle. In last season's UEFA Champions League they picked up just one point out of a possible 18 and finished rock-bottom of their group, conceding 15 goals.
This term, after beating Bodo/Glimt in the play-off round, they have played four and lost four. After narrowly losing 2-1 at home to Benfica in their opener, they have been thumped by Inter (4-0), Monaco (5-1) and Barcelona (5-2) and their prospects of making the top 24 appear bleak.
Each of their four matches this season have produced over 2.5 goals and five of last season's six group-stage games did likewise.
They are struggling to defend and, given that only four teams have fired off more shots in the competition than Stuttgart, the Germans can win a high-scoring affair.
Enzo Millot to score or assist - 13/10
Injuries to Deniz Undav, El-Bilal Toure and Jamie Leweling have put added pressure on the likes of Enzo Millot.
The rising French star has become a central figure for Stuttgart and three goals and two assists in the Bundesliga, plus a UEFA Champions League goal against Sparta Prague and an assist for Toure at Juve, confirm that he's up to the challenge.
Millot is averaging three shots per game in Europe in this seriously attack-minded German side, whose 76 efforts on goal are bettered by just four other clubs.
This is the first of three very winnable games for Stuttgart - their next two fixtures are against Young Boys and Slovan Bratislava - so there will be no backing off from Hoeness' men in a game where a draw would represent another disappointing outcome.
Millot will be at the heart of Stuttgart's positive approach against the worst defence in the competition and he looks a great call to add to either his goals or assists tally (if not both) in Belgrade.
Over 5.5 Stuttgart Corners - Evens
There should be plenty of goals at the Stadion Rajko Mitic and also plenty of corners, mostly from the away side.
In four UEFA Champions League matches to date, Stuttgart have racked up 30 corners - 7.5 per match - which is impressive given the calibre of their opponents.
In their last two matches, Crvena Zvezda gave up eight corners in Monaco and seven at home to Barcelona.
Stuttgart are averaging 5.9 corners per game in the Bundesliga and, given the pressure applied, would expect to pile up six or more on Wednesday night.
