Crewe Alexandra welcome a Liverpool Under-21s side to the Mornflake Stadium for an EFL Trophy clash on Tuesday evening, with both teams beginning their Group E campaigns.
The four-team pool is completed by Blackpool and Harrogate Town, with the League One Seasiders having reached the semi-finals of the competition last season.
Crewe Alexandra v Liverpool U21 will be broadcast live on Sky Sports+ in the UK.
Crewe Alexandra v Liverpool U21 will take place at the Mornflake Stadium in Crewe, with the game kicking-off at 19:30 (BST) on Tuesday 27th August 2024.
These two sides have never previously met, although Crewe have lost all eight games they have played against the senior Liverpool side, the most recent of which was a 2-1 loss at Anfield in the EFL Cup in September 2008.
The Railwaymen have opened their League Two campaign with two defeats and a draw in three matches played, with their first point being earned last weekend as they drew 0-0 at home to Swindon Town.
Liverpool U21s began their Premier League 2 season with a 3-1 win over Manchester City, but have since been beaten 4-0 by PSV Eindhoven in the International Cup and then 2-1 by Leicester City back in domestic competition.
Crewe boss Lee Bell made major defensive changes for the clash with Swindon, as he handed full league debuts to Max Conway and Jamie Knight-Lebel, while both Lewis Billington and Shilow Tracey were recalled.
A clean sheet against the Robins should ensure that changes are kept to a minimum unless Bell decides to rotate his squad and prioritise League Two.
Barry Lewtas will want to see an improvement from back-to-back defeats, but would have been pleased to see Trey Nyoni mark his first appearance of the season with a goal against Leicester.
Meanwhile, midfielder Dominic Corness has impressed since returning from a season-long loan with Swiss side Yverdon Sports.
