Oxford got off to a superb start to the season with a 2-0 victory at home to Norwich and they can add another point against Coventry, who were beaten on the opening weekend.
Confidence is sky-high for Oxford, who followed up their success over Norwich with a 2-0 triumph at home to Peterborough in the EFL Cup.
Coventry also made progress in the EFL Cup with a 1-0 triumph away to divisional rivals Bristol City but they are without a victory in their last seven Championship contests.
Draw - 3/1
Oxford returned to the second tier after a 25-year absence with a superb 2-0 success at home to Norwich and they can keep the feelgood vibe going by earning a point against Coventry at the CBS Arena.
There are budgetary challenges for the Yellows, who are having to box clever in the transfer market.
But they have made some smart acquisitions and their recruitment drive continued this week when Tottenham striker Dane Scarlett was snapped up on a season-long loan.
Scarlett has plenty of potential but he may have to show some patience because Oxford’s first choice centre-forward, Mark Harris, netted 15 goals last season and was soon off and running this term with his team’s first goal of the campaign.
Oxford’s victory over the Canaries, playoff semi-finalists last season, was fully deserved and they maintained high standards with a 2-0 success at home to Peterborough in the EFL Cup first round.
The trip to Coventry presents another tough challenge but most of the expectation and pressure is on the hosts, who finished last season slowly, taking one point from their last six games, and were beaten last Saturday.
Mark Robins’s side ended up ninth last season and can look back with fond memories at a superb FA Cup run which concluded in a Wembley semi-final with a penalty shootout loss to Manchester United.
They have strengthened over the summer and look especially well stocked in attack with Haji Wright, Ellis Simms and Brandon Thomas-Asante competing for places.
Reaching the playoffs looks a realistic target, but the Sky Blues are taking on a buoyant Oxford at a tricky time and they might have to accept a share of the spoils.
Tyler Goodrham to score anytime - 6/1
Oxford have snapped up two wingers, Przemysław Placheta and Matt Phillips, with Championship experience but they also have high hopes for 21-year-old academy product Tyler Goodrham, who could play a starring role for them at the CBS Arena.
Goodrham has pace, intelligence and an eye for goal and was utilised as a wide player and an attacking midfielder during Oxford’s League One promotion-winning campaign.
He bagged eight goals and four assists last term and has the potential to make a bigger impact in the Championship.
Goodrham notched in Tuesday’s 2-0 triumph at home to Peterborough and his threat to Coventry is sufficient to warrant an anytime scorer wager at 6/1.
Will Vaulks to be carded - 13/5
Oxford have been keen to add some Championship experience and were delighted to snap up midfielder Will Vaulks from Sheffield Wednesday.
Among Vaulks’s attributes are an effective long throw and long range shooting prowess.
But one of the Welshman’s main tasks will be to break up Coventry attacks and he may cross the line with some of his tackling.
Vaulks was cautioned 11 times in just 36 appearances last season and he looks an overpriced 13/5 shot to collect a booking at Coventry.
