Coventry City v Leeds United: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Leeds United’s 13-game unbeaten run will be put to the test by Frank Lampard’s Sky Blues at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Wednesday.

Coventry City have won five games in a row to move within a win of the top six and will not fear a Leeds team that have not shown anything close to their home form when away from West Yorkshire.

Daniel Farke’s side smashed Cardiff 7-0 at fortress Elland Road on Saturday to remain two points clear of Sheffield United at the top of the table.

The Whites have taken 37 points from the last 39 on offer at home, but they have failed to win eight of their last 11 away league games.

Coventry were outclassed by Leeds when these sides met in September with only a man-of-the-match display from goalkeeper Ben Wilson preventing the visitors from a more humiliating scoreline than the final 3-0 outcome.

Lampard has, however, built enough momentum and defensive solidity in a group that has kept five clean sheets in their last eight league games for this to be a much closer affair.

Coventry City v Leeds United Betting Tips and Predictions

Both teams to score - No - 10/11

Leeds have kept 18 Championship clean sheets this term and haven’t conceded in any of their last five games in all competitions.

That suggests it will be tough for Coventry, who will be without top scorer Haji Wright, to breach their defence on Wednesday.

A Cardiff side that were on a nine-game unbeaten run created next to nothing of note at Elland Road, managing to register just two shots in total.

At least Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier had some work to do after none of Burnley’s four efforts were on target in the previous game - a 0-0 draw at Turf Moor.

Farke’s fearsome forward line are oozing confidence right now after producing the club’s first seven-goal salvo since 1972.

But the Burnley game gave Coventry a blueprint for stopping them in their tracks as the Clarets constantly dropped off to deny Leeds the space to play balls behind their defence.

Lampard may have his own ideas about how to blunt the leaders’ attack and Coventry have been pretty good at keeping the back door bolted of late.

The Sky Blues have kept three clean sheets in their last five home games, conceding only twice to a stoppage-time strike and an own goal during that run.

With the defences in solid shape there is a strong possibility that one or both of the teams can record a shutout.

Corner Handicap Leeds -1 - 10/11

These two clubs are among the top three in the Championship for winning corners with Leeds out in front of the rest and Coventry in third place.

And when it comes to defending, Leeds have also been able to limit their opponents’ set-piece opportunities by allowing a league-low 91 corners through their 30 games.

Coventry have not been as successful at stopping corners at the other end with their opponents’ averaging more than five corners a game.

Coventry have allowed five corners or more in eight of the 13 Championship matches played since Lampard took charge and they have not earned more than three themselves in five of their last nine games.

These stats indicate Leeds are likelier to win the corner battle as they have done in the vast majority of their league games this season.

In fact, Farke’s side have been so dominant in this area that they have covered a -1 corner handicap in their last 14 Championship matches.

Under 1.5 Leeds goals - 5/6

Leeds’ seven-goal splurge felt like a release of the frustration Farke’s men felt when subjected to a tactically disciplined display at Burnley a few days before.

But, as can often be the case, this clash may prove to be an anticlimax for those expecting a similar scouring burst.

The Whites are not among the Championship’s five most potent away performers this season with the likes of Watford and West Brom having hit more goals on the road.

Leeds have tended to target a clean sheet over securing a second goal once they have taken the lead away from home and that has led to them only managing multiple strikes in six of their 14 Championship trips to date.
