Coventry City v Ipswich Town: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Coventry City have posted some decent results under Frank Lampard and they should relish the chance to prove themselves against Premier League strugglers Ipswich Town in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Coventry City v Ipswich Town betting tips and predictions

Coventry City to qualify - 11/10

Coventry enjoyed a memorable run to the semi-finals of the FA Cup last season where they were beaten on penalties by Manchester United in a Wembley thriller, and Lampard’s side look to have a solid chance of reaching the last-16 at Ipswich Town’s expense on Saturday.

While gaining their second successive promotion ensured last season was a memorable campaign for the Tractor Boys, their FA Cup experience can only be termed as miserable as they were beaten by non-league Maidstone United in round four.

Kieran McKenna’s side ensured there were no similar slip-ups when they saw off League One Bristol Rovers in the third round a few weeks ago.

However, they have lost their last four Premier League matches, with last week’s 2-1 defeat to bottom-of-the-table Southampton potentially damaging for morale at the Suffolk outfit.

It seems inevitable that the FA Cup will play second fiddle to the league, so this could represent a strong chance for the Sky Blues to claim a top-flight scalp.

Coventry sit 11th in the second-tier table and just three points off the play-off places, so could easily make a push in the last 15 games of the season.

While Wednesday's 2-0 home defeat to leaders Leeds United was a blow, that followed four straight victories over Bristol City, Blackburn Rovers, Watford and Swansea City, so confidence should be high in the home camp.

Brandon Thomas-Asante to score at any time - 12/5

Brandon Thomas-Asante has become an integral part of Lampard’s starting line-up and the forward could make his mark for the hosts inside 90 minutes.

He has been a prominent performer in the Sky Blues’ recent successes, scoring in the wins over Bristol City, Blackburn and Swansea.

Thomas-Asante had 14 efforts at goal in the four games before City’s midweek defeat to Leeds, so he clearly has his eye in and represents some good value at 12/5 to get his name on the scoresheet in Saturday’s showdown at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Over 5.5 Coventry corners - 10/11

Ipswich have predictably found Premier League life tough after two straight promotions and it is little surprise to see them having earned the third lowest number of corners, as they have averaged just 4.04 per match.

But there looks a strong chance that Coventry will be able to gain plenty of flag-kicks against the Tractor Boys and they should be backed to accumulate more than five when they lock horns with the top-flight strugglers.

While they are mid-table in the Championship standings, City’s average of 5.77 per game is the fourth highest in the second tier and the figure goes up to 6.2 when they are on their own patch.

Their visitors concede an average of 6.73 when on the road and, with Coventry likely to get on to the front foot, there is a decent chance their tally will go over 5.5.
