Colombia will be looking to improve on third spot in the table as they welcome Ecuador to the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez in 2026 World Cup qualifying on Tuesday night.
Suffering a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay last time out in Montevideo, Colombia boss Nestor Lorenzo will be eager to see his side bounce back at the first time of asking against Ecuador.
The Ecuadorians will go into Tuesday night’s game on the back of a 4-0 win over Bolivia to make it four games unbeaten for head coach Sebastian Beccacece and his side.
However, a trip to Barranquilla and the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez will provide a much sterner test for Ecuador, who might well leave Colombia empty-handed.
Colombia to win to nil - 6/5
The Colombians have an impressive home record to look back on, having won their last five home matches in a row.
A 4-0 victory over Chile last time out just shows how effective they can be on their own patch and how difficult it can be to find a way past a defence that seems to shine at home.
Conceding just one goal in their last four home games, keeping clean sheets against the likes of Costa Rica, Panama and Chile, only Argentina managed to find the back of the net during that spell.
All signs are pointing to a home win to nil in this one, especially after taking a closer look at Ecuador’s recent performances on the road.
Ecuador have only managed one win in their last five matches on the road and have failed to find the net in their previous four away matches.
Toothless at times on their travels, it’s hard to see this Ecuadorian side getting on the scoresheet on Tuesday night.
Over 2.5 total goals - 6/4
Looking at Colombia’s recent run of home wins, over 2.5 total goals would have landed in all of their last five games.
With the attacking talent Colombia have in their ranks, it’s more than plausible to see them bagging at least three goals against Ecuador this week.
Putting four goals past Chile in their last outing on home soil, this is a Colombia side that plays with confidence on their own patch and the 6/4 on offer for over 2.5 total goals on Tuesday looks to be good value here.
Luis Diaz anytime goalscorer - 15/8
A player who is enjoying an impressive season so far, Liverpool’s Luis Diaz has to be a forward to look out for in the anytime goalscorer market for this one.
The 27-year-old scored in Colombia’s last home game against Chile, while Diaz has already scored five goals in 11 appearances in the Premier League this season.
A player who appears to be able to time his runs and gets shots away early to catch defenders and goalkeepers off guard, Diaz looks to be great value at odds of 15/8 to add to the 15 goals he’s already scored for his country.
Starting his senior career at Barranquilla back in 2016, Diaz would like nothing more than to return to the city and get back among the goals.
