Colchester v Crewe: Prediction, Tips and Odds

The television cameras will be at the Colchester Community Stadium this Saturday where the sums are very simple going into the final round of League Two fixtures.

Colchester need a point to guarantee survival for another season, with Crewe needing a point to absolutely guarantee their place in the play-offs, so it's difficult to foresee respective managers Danny Cowley and Lee Bell taking many risks what is set to be intriguing contest.

Colchester v Crewe betting tips and predictions

Draw - Draw Half Time/Full Time - 7/2

With Colchester and Crewe both requiring a draw to satisfy their last-day aspirations, it’s little wonder there are no chances being taken with that result.

It’s 8/5 that this game ends all-square with Colchester at 6/4 and Crewe 13/5.

Defeat for either side wouldn’t necessarily be a disaster. A one-goal loss for Colchester, for example, would only see them relegated if Sutton United, the only side who can catch them, were to win by a three-goal margin at Milton Keynes Dons.

If Crewe were to lose, both Barrow and Crawley would have to win their final matches, at home to Mansfield and Grimsby respectively, to deny the Railwaymen their place in the play-offs.

Clearly managers Cowley and Bell would take a tame 0-0 draw but football is too strange a game to suggest the script is pre-written.

What is for certain is that caution will be the watchword for both camps and, if ambition is limited, then presumably it will be limited throughout the 90 minutes.

So anyone tempted by the draw, but not necessarily by the price, might prefer to look at the Draw - Draw result in the Half Time/Full Time market at 7/2.

Colchester have become harder to beat under Cowley who has lost six of 19 since arriving in January, a clear improvement for a side 22nd in the table.

He’ll be devastated they blew their chance to nail down safety during the week when they took a lead at home to in-form Doncaster but lost 4-1.

But they have this second chance and it’s against a Crewe side who have stuttered during the run-in, winning just one of their last eight.

In their last six games the Railwaymen have managed to score just one goal, a real drought for a side who were so full of goals during the first half of the season.

Total Goal Minutes Under 120 - 5/6

Five of Colchester’s last 10 matches have produced total goals minutes of under 120. Eight of Crewe’s last 10 matches have done the same.

Even if this game doesn’t play to the cautious approach that many are forecasting, a total goals minutes under 120 looks a pretty decent bet.

Crewe were full of goals earlier in the season but can’t find the net for love nor money at the moment. They have scored just once in their last six courtesy of Elliott Nevitt, one of just two Alex players to have found the net in their last 10 matches.

Colchester were blown away by Doncaster on Tuesday night, but that was a Donny side on a mission and needing to win. Crewe are certainly not in that position.

Corners Race to 3 - Crewe - 11/10

A game of few goals shouldn’t yield that many corners either, but Crewe can win the race to three at 11/10.

The bare stats show that Crewe win more corners on their travels (5.5) than Colchester do at home (5.4), and the polarity in their league positions shows who should be the side applying more pressure on the opposition goal in this encounter.
