Two sides in desperate need of a change in fortunes meet in League Two on Sunday afternoon as Chesterfield take on Gillingham at the SMH Group Stadium.
The Spireites have lost each of their last three matches in the fourth tier to fall off the pace in the promotion race and they will be hoping to improve upon a home record that has seen them win just four times in front of their own fans this season.
The Gills meanwhile are winless in four - losing each of their last three to nil - and a win at the weekend would go a long way to easing the growing pressure on manager Mark Bonner.
Draw - 13/5
These two sides ended 2024 in poor form and although both would like to return to winning ways on Sunday, they may have to settle for a point apiece.
Chesterfield are used to sharing the spoils in front of their own fans this season - only Fleetwood (seven) had drawn more home matches in League Two than the Spireites (six) heading into this weekend’s action - although Paul Cook’s men were beaten in their most recent home fixture (2-1 v MK Dons).
Gillingham’s away form does not make for great reading, with the visitors winning just one of their last eight matches on the road in all competitions, losing five of those, including their last two to nil against Colchester and AFC Wimbledon.
Two of the last three meetings between these two sides have also ended all square and the signs point towards another tight clash on Sunday.
Under 2.5 goals - 3/4
Not only are both sides in poor form but the two have also been wasteful in front of goal over the festive period and so a low-scoring encounter may well be on the cards.
The Spireites have failed to score more than once in any of their last four League Two matches, despite taking 46 shots over the course of that run.
Gillingham, meanwhile, are the lowest away scorers in League Two - netting just six goals on their travels - however the 11 goals they have conceded on the road is only bettered by league leaders Walsall, Bromley, AFC Wimbledon and Salford.
Their impressive defensive displays away from home indicate Chesterfield should be stifled going forward, while their blunt attack is unlikely to trouble the hosts. Both are capable of finding the net, but it would be surprising if either netted more than once.
Over nine corners in the match combined - 4/5
This could be a scrappy encounter in Derbyshire and set pieces could be key in determining the outcome, with the corners market potentially providing some value.
Over nine corners in the contest looks a tempting prospect. An average of 8.26 corners have been taken in league matches involving Gillingham this season while the tally rises to 9.46 for the Spireites.
Over 8.5 corners have also occurred in 58% of Chesterfield’s league contests this season and this figure may well improve on Sunday.
