Cheltenham Town v Tranmere Rovers: Prediction, Tips and Odds

The weekend League Two card kicks off with a Friday night showdown between strugglers Cheltenham Town and Tranmere Rovers.

Mike Flynn's Cheltenham are six points outside the relegation places in 17th spot, with Tranmere a point and three places further back but with two games in hand.

Cheltenham to win - 29/20

Cheltenham boss Mike Flynn couldn't hide his disappointment at seeing his side's unbeaten run come to an end at Milton Keynes but their recent form suggests they are probably worth trusting at home to goal-shy Tranmere.

The Robins had put together a seven-game unbeaten streak where the highlights had included cup wins against League One sides Rotherham and Reading.

And they were on course to make it eight in a row after taking an early 2-0 lead at the Dons. Defensive lapses, however, cost Cheltenham as high-riding Milton Keynes hit back to win 3-2.

Cheltenham had played well, however, adding to the optimism engendered by their recent run of form and they ought to be positive welcoming Tranmere.

Cheltenham have found the net in all bar one of their last 17 fixtures with 14 different scorers this season headed by five-goal Ethan Archer, who has got three in his last four.

That firepower - and they have scored more goals than second-placed Crewe - is in contrast to Tranmere, who have only mustered 10 goals in their 14 league games, a massive four goals less than any other side has notched.

They have failed to score in half of their 14 fixtures though managed two last time in a welcome 2-1 win at home to Newport.

Flynn hopes to have Sam Stubbs back after he missed the MK Dons' loss to provide vocal leadership and organisation at the back, and if they can tighten up then one goal might well be all that's needed to win this.

Luke Young anytime scorer - 8/1

Midfielder Luke Young played a minor role helping Wrexham win promotion last season but remains in League Two having switched to Cheltenham.

And the 31-year-old is enjoying a good season with a string of positive displays and a continued sight of his goal threat.

Naturally a deep-sitting midfielder, Young will get forward and is also a key figure at set-plays.

He has a powerful shot with three goals to his name this season, a decent start but not a surprise given he once bagged 12 in a National League campaign with Wrexham.

He averages 1.5 shots per game for Town - only Jordan Thomas and Joel Colwill average more for the club - and looks fair value at 8/1 to find the net at any time.

Corners Race To 5 - Tranmere - 11/10

Tranmere may be League Two's lowest scorers but their shots-per-game average of 11.9 is 14th of the 24 teams in the division.

It's clearly efficiency that has turned Nigel Adkins' men into a blunt instrument.

Equally, they win their fair share of corners - they average 5.8 per game with only four other clubs producing more. Despite that, only Salford have scored fewer set-piece goals than the Rovers.

On the back of two straight wins, Tranmere would hope to play their part in a decent contest and can win a race to five corners at 11/10.
