Chelsea v Wolves: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Bournemouth became the latest side to frustrate Chelsea on Tuesday, holding the Blues to a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge to extend their hosts' Premier League winless streak to five games.

Last month, Enzo Maresca was adamant that the Blues were not in a title race and, after their subsequent poor run, it is fair to say he will be certain of that statement now.

The Blues find themselves 13 points behind the leaders, Liverpool, ahead of Monday’s visit from Wolves, but they should go about shortening that gap by taking down struggling Wanderers at Stamford Bridge, even if their visitors have enough to get on the scoresheet.

Chelsea v Wolves betting tips and predictions

Chelsea to win and both teams to score - 7/5

While Chelsea may be struggling by their standards, Wolves are in a whole other world of trouble.

The new manager bounce received by replacing Gary O’Neil with Vitor Pereira was short-lived as wins over Leicester City and Manchester United, as well as a solid draw with Tottenham, was followed by 3-0 defeats to Nottingham Forest and then Newcastle United.

Pereira has struggled to find a solution to the same issues which plagued his predecessor, with Wolves still shipping far too many goals to give their fans any faith that they can avoid the drop this season.

Some optimistic Wanderers fans will look at Chelsea’s five-match winless run - a sequence which includes a defeat to Ipswich and a draw with Everton, two of Wolves’ relegation rivals - as a reason to believe they can pull off a shock in the capital, but it seems likelier that the Blues’ poor run will actually spur them on.

Poor finishing cost them against Bournemouth - Chelsea won the expected goals 2.5-1.2 - and they may not be so wasteful against Wanderers, who shipped six to the Blues in the reverse fixture.

It is a good job Chelsea have Nicolas Jackson, Jadon Sancho, Noni Madueke and Cole Palmer - should he be fit to feature - as they will need all of their attacking strength to secure an important three points, with Wolves fancied to net in the capital.

Wanderers have blanked in just two of their last 15 Premier League games and can net in defeat against a side who have managed just one league clean sheet at the Bridge this term.

Noni Madueke to score or assist - 10/11

Palmer has been leading the way for Chelsea during their difficult run, scoring three of their four goals during their winless streak.

However, the fact Wolves have conceded a joint-league-high 48 goals suggests that some of the Blues’ supporting cast could get in on the act too.

Madueke was the star man in August’s reverse fixture, netting a hat-trick as the Blues routed their hosts 6-2 at Molineux, and the winger is beginning to look like a real threat again following a dip in form.

The England winger has scored one goal and provided four assists in his last 407 minutes of action - averaging a direct goal involvement every 81 minutes - and he should play a big part on Monday night.

Wolves left wing-back Rayan Ait-Nouri’s strength lie going forwards and his tendency to get caught high up the pitch could leave his centre-backs exposed, creating space for Madueke to drift inside and either score himself or create for a team-mate.

Emmanuel Agbadou to be booked - 21/10

As mentioned above, Ait-Nouri may leave his left centre-back exposed at the bridge, meaning new signing Emmanuel Agbadou could be set for a second booking in as many Premier League games.

The Ivorian defender endured a tricky Premier League debut at Newcastle, making numerous mistakes, playing plenty of sloppy passes and getting himself booked as his side were routed 3-0 at St James’ Park, with things unlikely to get easier in London.

Chelsea love to build up play down their right flank, with their key creator, Palmer, regularly drifting out to that wing to overload with whoever the Blues’ right-winger is on that day, meaning Agbadou could be forced into a few fouls on Monday.

The centre-back was booked three times in his final seven appearances for Reims before moving to Wolves and he rates as a solid candidate for a card at the Bridge.
