Chelsea v Tottenham: Prediction, Tips and Odds

London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham will meet on Thursday in what is sure to be a fiercely competitive Premier League derby at Stamford Bridge, with European qualification on the agenda for both teams.

Mauricio Pochettino's hosts will head into the clash with his former club sitting ninth in the standings, but they are still very much in the battle for the European places, lying just five points behind seventh-placed Newcastle with a game in hand.

Spurs are all but guaranteed European football for next season but their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League have taken a knock in recent weeks, with Ange Postecoglou's side currently fifth, a full seven points behind Aston Villa in fourth, albeit with two games in hand.

Chelsea v Tottenham betting tips and predictions

Chelsea to win - 23/20

It has been another up-and-down season for Chelsea, who will head into this clash on a three-game winless run that includes exiting the FA Cup at the hands of Manchester City and being thrashed 5-0 in the league at Arsenal.

The Blues showed plenty of spirit to battle back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Aston Villa last time out and, after playing their last three fixtures away from Stamford Bridge, they will be grateful to have home comforts against Spurs.

Chelsea have impressed on their own patch of late, remaining unbeaten in their last six home fixtures, winning five of those games and racking up plenty of goals in all of them.

By contrast, Spurs have won only two of their last 10 league games on the road and were thrashed 4-0 at Newcastle in their most recent away fixture.

Postecoglou's side are stuttering in their battle for Champions League qualification and the omens are not good ahead of their trip to Stamford Bridge, as they have won only one of their last 33 league visits to the venue - a 3-1 success in April 2018 when Pochettino was in the away dugout.

Chelsea were 4-1 winners in November's reverse meeting at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - albeit Spurs played a large chunk of that match with just 10 men - and the Blues should have enough in their locker to complete a league double over their London rivals.

Over 4.5 goals - 7/4

Chelsea's ongoing six-match unbeaten run at home has provided plenty of entertainment, with a combined 33 goals scored during those contests, 22 of which have been netted by the Blues.

All but one of those games - the 2-2 league draw with Burnley - have featured at least five goals and the signs are that trend will continue against Tottenham.

Spurs were beaten 3-2 by North London rivals Arsenal last time out and that was the 10th time during their last 15 league fixtures that at least four goals have been scored.

With five goals having been netted when these two sides last met in November, it would be a huge surprise if there was not plenty of goalmouth action on Thursday.

Noni Madueke to score or assist - 11/8

Chelsea winger Noni Madueke has largely been limited to a bit-part role since joining the Blues from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023, but there are signs he is starting to be trusted by Pochettino.

The England under-21 international has started Chelsea's last five matches in all competitions and he was pivotal in Saturday's comeback against Aston Villa, scoring and providing an assist.

Madueke's numbers have certainly been strong of late, as he has six goals in his last 10 appearances for either club or country and as someone who tends to play on the right of a forward three, his chances of impressing against Spurs have been boosted by the visitor's injury crisis at left-back.

Spurs were already missing first-choice Destiny Udogie and Ryan Sessegnon before Ben Davies picked up a season-ending calf injury late in the derby defeat to Arsenal.

Right-back Emerson Royal is the most likely player to fill in on the left of the defence against Chelsea, but coming up against an out-of-position player will surely boost Madueke's chances of continuing his hot streak and he looks a good bet to provide a goal or an assist or perhaps even both.
