Given the huge investment at Chelsea, the Blues will hope to be competing for Premier League and UEFA Champions League honours before long.

Their immediate objective, however, is Thursday's home leg against Swiss side Servette in the UEFA Conference League qualifying competition.

The Blues, whose frantic activity in the transfer market is once again dominating the headlines, were beaten 2-0 by Premier League champions Manchester City in last weekend's season opener.

It will surely take time for manager Enzo Maresca to find the right balance for his starting line-up as he assesses a squad of more than 40 senior players.

There was no shame in losing to a dominant and settled City side but Chelsea cannot afford to slip up against Servette and a high-scoring home win looks likely.

The Blues won 10 of their last 12 home league matches under Mauricio Pochettino last season, scoring 19 goals in their last five at Stamford Bridge.

Servette won 7-1 at lowly Signal in the Swiss Cup at the weekend but their last two league results were a 3-1 defeat at Lugano and a 6-0 home rout by Basel.

Their hopes of reaching the UEFA Europa League proper were ended by a 2-1 qualifying loss to Braga and Chelsea should be backed to claim a victory featuring four or more goals.  

Marc Guiu to be anytime goalscorer - 1/1

It will be interesting to see how strong a team Maresca selects on Thursday given that Chelsea travel to Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

One player who could get an opportunity after impressing in pre-season is teenage striker Marc Guiu, who is worth backing to score at any time.

He was signed this summer from Barcelona, for whom he scored twice in just 106 minutes of La Liga and Champions League football last season.

Guiu caught the eye in Chelsea's pre-season fixtures against Celtic and Inter Milan and he scored a header in the 3-0 win over Club America on the tour of the USA. 

He had been expected to go out on loan but came on as a substitute midway through the second half against City and a goal on Thursday evening could move him up the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. 

Steve Rouiller to be booked - 5/2

After conceding 13 goals in their first five Swiss Super League matches this season, Servette's defenders can expect another tough shift against Chelsea.

Centre-back Steve Rouiller looks a leading candidate for a yellow card and the 34-year-old has already had some disciplinary issues this term.

He was sent off in the 3-2 league win over Yverdon at the end of July and was booked in the away leg of Servette's UEFA Europa League qualifying tie against Braga.

Rouiller also struggled to stay out of trouble in last season's Europa League. He picked up yellow cards in two of his three appearances, against Slavia Prague and Roma, and is a tempting bet to be cautioned against a Chelsea side packed with pacy, tricky forwards.
