Chelsea 2024/25 Premier League title & top-four finish odds

Chelsea splashed the cash 12 months ago in a bid to return to the Premier League title reckoning, but an inconsistent start under Mauricio Pochettino saw them fall well off the pace in the 2023/24 campaign.

However, the Blues slowly got their act together and a fast finish to the season means they will kick-off the 2024/25 competition with renewed optimism.

Pochettino was feeling the heat after the first half of the 2023/24 campaign with his Chelsea side wallowing in mid-table despite a hefty outlay on new players last summer.

Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku, Axel Disasi and Nicolas Jackson were just some of the players snapped up by the West London club for some eye-watering fees, but the splurge to rebuild the side failed to pay off immediately with just two wins coming from their opening seven matches in all competitions.

Disjointed performances were commonplace as Pochettino struggled to get his horde of new Blues to gel into an efficient unit.

Caicedo and fellow midfielder Enzo Fernandez were treading on each other's toes, while Jackson was misfiring in attack with Nkunku out for large parts through injury.

Only Palmer was making much of an impact, and the former Manchester City youngster's influence on the side continuing to blossom throughout the campaign.

The turn of the year, though, would start to see an improvement in results, with the Blues pushing up the table to put themselves into the European qualification reckoning.

Chelsea started 2024 with a home hammering of Preston in the FA Cup but there was an immediate setback as the West Londoners were beaten by Championship side Middlesbrough in a League Cup semi-final first leg just three days later.

However, a new resilient side to the Blues came to the fore and they brushed themselves down to win the return leg 6-1 at Stamford Bridge and that would prove the catalyst to a flourishing finish to the season.

Chelsea would lose just four of their following 23 matches in all competitions and they brought the curtain down on their campaign with five straight wins in the Premier League, and the London side can look forward to the 2024/25 season with renewed vigour.

The 2016/17 season was the last time the Premier League trophy ended up at Stamford Bridge and it is 20/1 that the trophy finds its way there following the climax of the 2024/25 edition.

That rates Chelsea as fourth favourites behind Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

A hefty degree of progress would be needed to leapfrog that trio next season, while Aston Villa, Manchester United and Newcastle are all likely to share similar ambitions to the West London outfit.

Chelsea failed to make it into European competition last season but they are assured of at least a Europa Conference league play-off place after finishing sixth in 2023/24.

However, that could be upgraded to a Europa League place should Manchester United lose in the FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday.

If United win then Chelsea will remain in the third tier of European competition next season. That would be something of a bonus still, given their sluggish start to the previous term, but their ambitions will be much loftier when things kick off again in August.

A top-four spot will likely be the main aim at Stamford Bridge and the 2020/21 European Champions are 11/8 to seal their place at the top table by finishing in the top four of the Premier League next season.

Doubts remain about Pochettino's chances of being the man to lead the charge for Chelsea but if they can start the new season how they finished the last one, then the Blues will be a force to be reckoned with no matter who is in the Stamford bridge hotseat, particularly if Palmer can maintain his blistering form.
