Chelsea v Nottingham Forest: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Chelsea head into the weekend looking to extend their winning run in all competitions to six matches when they entertain Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

All eyes will be on Cole Palmer as he looks to build on the four-goal show-stealing performance he produced in the Blues’ last home league game against Brighton, but Enzo Maresca’s side will have to guard against complacency after the Tricky trees shocked Liverpool by winning 1-0 at Anfield last month.

Chelsea-Chelsea half-time/full-time - 5/4

The sight of entering the weekend two points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool after six games will gladden the hearts of Chelsea supporters after a couple of lean years, and they stand a good chance of claiming their sixth successive league and cup victory when they face Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

These are, once again, exciting times at Stamford Bridge, which much of the joy focused on England star Cole Palmer, who is becoming one of the league’s best players since his move from Manchester City, a feeling that was epitomised by the four goals he scored in their last league success over Brighton.

Enzo Maresca’s decision not to include him in their squad for the pre-knockout stage of the Conference League looks to have been a shrewd one as he will be nicely rested having sat out Thursday’s 4-2 win over Gent.

However, Chelsea will have no excuses if they are complacent against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side as they proved last month they can sting anyone in the Premier League by winning 1-0 at Anfield.

That was one of just two league and cup victories that the Tricky Trees have mustered this season, but that should encourage Chelsea to make a fast start, just as they did against the Seagulls when all four of Palmer’s goals came in the first half.

The Blues have been behind at half-time just once this season - in their opening 2-0 defeat to champions Manchester City - while Forest have been ahead at the interval just once, in their opener against Bournemouth, so taking the Londoners in the half-time/full-time market could be a passport to profit.

Nicolas Jackson to score at any time - 8/5

While Palmer will be a popular anytime-goalscorer selection, it may be wise not to take our eyes off Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, who is looking like he could train on from his first season in the Premier League.

He scored 14 goals last term and has found the net four times in the league this season, including twice in the Blues’ 3-0 victory at West Ham.

Chances could be plentiful for Maresca’s side against their Midlands visitors and the Senegalese forward looks confident enough to snap at least one up and, as Chelsea’s likely sole forward option, he represents some good value at 8/5, having had more shots on goal and shots on target than the in-form Palmer.

Morgan Gibbs-White to be booked - 15/8

Forest will be delighted to have Morgan Gibbs-White available after he missed the home defeat to Fulham following his red card in the 2-2 draw at Brighton.

He received two yellows on that occasion and was also booked in their draw with Wolves, which is no surprise for a player who is often in the thick of the action.

It would not be a surprise if the England man was cautioned as his tally of 13 fouls this season is by far the highest among the Forest squad - having also been booked on nine occasions last season.
