Chelsea v Leicester: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Chelsea will be hoping that success in the FA Cup can rescue a disappointing season overall and they will look to utilise home advantage in their quarter-final against Leicester City on Sunday.

The Blues look set for another mid-table finish, which is scant reward for hefty player investment.

However, they have won eight of their last 11 games at Stamford Bridge and a strong second-half performance against Newcastle on Monday suggests a change in fortunes may be just around the corner.

Championship leaders Leicester should provide them with a tough test, similar to the one Mauricio Pochettino’s side received in the last round when they needed a late goal to get past another strong second-tier outfit, Leeds United.

It looks like there is all to play for in the third last-eight tie of the weekend and we could be in for a cracker at the Bridge.

Chelsea v Leicester betting tips and predictions

Over 2.5 goals & both teams to score - 1/1

Chelsea’s young team is beginning to show some promise, but their attack looks a lot stronger than their defence and that points to goals in Sunday’s clash.

The Londoners were excellent going forward in the second half of their 3-2 win over Newcastle on Monday, but it has to be at least a mild concern that they have kept just four clean sheets in their last 12 home matches, even though they have won eight off 11 on their own patch.

City have failed to score inside 90 minutes in just two of their 24 away matches this season and there looks a strong chance this game may follow the same pattern as Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Leeds, who were fortunate to beat the Foxes in a league game last month.

The Blues may not leave it as late as they did on that occasion, but the Foxes can at least be expected to find the net and doubling that up with there being at least three goals in the game provides a decent even-money return.

Nicolas Jackson to score at any time - 6/5

Cole Palmer has been the lynchpin in the Chelsea team since he arrived from Manchester City, but striker Nicolas Jackson has shown signs of life recently and he can find his way on the scoresheet.

No Blues player has had more shots (53) or efforts on target (25) in the Premier League than the Senegalese striker and he has been in decent form in the last few weeks.

He had scored one goal in nine appearances before he went to the Africa Cup of Nations, where he had a limited impact in his country’s run to the last-16.

However, with Pochettino putting faith in him to lead the Chelsea line, he has scored in each of his last three matches, netting in the 3-2 victory over Leeds in the last round and then in subsequent league outings against Brentford and Newcastle.

This run should have been a huge confidence boost for the centre forward and he can reward his manager for the faith he has put in him by finding the net against the Foxes.

Harry Winks to be booked - 13/5

Former Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has undoubtedly benefited from regular football at Leicester and the drop down to the Championship with the Foxes has given him a chance to reset, which he has grabbed with both hands.

However, it would not be a surprise if he picked up his ninth booking of the season in what looks set to be a keenly contested clash in the capital.

Winks has committed at least two fouls in nine of his last 11 appearances for his new employers and playing against opponents of a higher quality than the average second-tier midfielder, it would not be a surprise if he fell foul of the referee again.
