Chelsea v Leeds: Tips, predictions & odds

Chelsea were clearly devastated after their 1-0 extra-time loss to Liverpool in the EFL Cup final but they must rally themselves for a vital FA Cup fifth round clash at home to Championship promotion contenders Leeds.

The in-form Whites are bidding to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 2003 and their current confidence could see them cause plenty of issues for their hosts.

Chelsea v Leeds Predictions

Leeds to qualify @ 11/4

Chelsea wasted a wonderful opportunity at Wembley on Sunday and their last hope of a successful season could be scuppered by Leeds, who have every chance of pulling off a shock result on their FA Cup fifth round trip to Stamford Bridge.

Mauricio Pochettino and his Blues players looked utterly deflated at the end of the EFL Cup final.

They had invested a lot of energy into the competition and their hopes must have risen after seeing that Liverpool were without so many influential players.

The confirmed absences of Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai meant that Liverpool were without nine senior players and they became further stretched after the 28th minute when Ryan Gravenberch was forced off with an ankle injury.

Liverpool finished the game with five academy graduates on the pitch but they were the stronger, more ambitious side in extra-time and got what they deserved.

Chelsea created and wasted several chances in the period leading up to extra-time but they sat back thereafter and paid the price.

Whatever the reasons, the Blues seemed to shrink when the game was theirs for the taking.

And, having failed on such a massive stage, it would be no great surprise if they struggled against Leeds, who extended their Championship winning sequence to nine with Friday’s 3-1 victory at home to Leicester.

Fortune was on Leeds' side against the Foxes, who took a deserved lead and were denied further goals by a combination of poor officiating (Patson Daka's second half strike was wrongly disallowed) and errant finishing.

But Daniel Farke's flock ultimately floored their visitors with a stunning spell of three goals in 15 minutes to keep their automatic promotion hopes firmly on track.

There will be a few selection calls for Farke, who might wish to keep a few players fresh for Saturday's key Championship fixture at Huddersfield.

However, he has a strong squad at his disposal and is sure to send out a side which is capable of posing Chelsea a few problems.

Leeds can benefit from playing under far less pressure and expectation than their hosts and their chances of success are strong enough to warrant a wager on them qualifying at 11/4.

Dan James to score or assist @ 11/5

Leeds are sure to be planning a few changes with the weekend in mind and one of the beneficiaries could be Dan James, who is in line for his first start since January.

James has been working his way back to full fitness after a hip problem, but he made a positive impact off the bench against Leicester and had a massive say in the third goal when his free-kick deflected off fellow substitute Patrick Bamford and flew past Foxes' keeper Mads Hermansen.

The 26-year-old has been having an excellent season, delivering 10 league goals and seven assists, and he has every chance of influencing the outcome at Stamford Bridge.

James will look to utilise his pace against a fairly high Chelsea defensive line and he looks an overpriced 11/5 shot to pop up with at least one goal involvement.

Moises Caicedo to be carded @ 10/3

There have been some feisty battles between Chelsea and Leeds over the years and there is the potential for plenty of cards to be dished out on Wednesday.

Chelsea are unlikely to take a backward step in a contest which could define their season and a few of their players could overstep the mark.

Nicolas Jackson tops the Blues' Premier League card count with nine, but Moises Caicedo could be a more likely candidate for a booking against Leeds.

The Ecuadorian has seen yellow in three of his last six appearances and looks a tempting 10/3 wager to collect another caution.
