Wycombe Wanderers have done well to challenge Birmingham City and Wrexham for leadership of League One in the first half of the season and they should be confident they can gain a full return from their trip to Charlton Athletic, despite the fact their hosts have won their last two matches.
Wycombe Wanderers to win - 29/20
Charlton Athletic have not really got going this season but successive wins over Northampton Town and Cambridge United have left them four points behind the League One play-off places.
The Addicks are always expected to challenge at third-tier level, but a home game against promotion-chasing Wycombe Wanderers will provide a much better indication of their potential than two victories against teams in the bottom five, and they may be turned over by the in-form Chairboys.
Admittedly, Nathan Jones’s side have done well against the division’s leading lights at home, earning a victory over leaders Birmingham City and a draw against Wrexham, and they have suffered only two defeats in 10 matches at The Valley.
However, Wanderers’ record has to be respected as they were defeated by those two big-hitters at the start of the season and have not been beaten since.
Matt Bloomfield’s team have dropped just four points from their last 10 away matches - they eased past Stevenage 3-0 on Boxing Day - and they should be relied upon to stop the Addicks’ mini revival in its tracks.
Over 2.5 goals - 21/20
Wycombe’s tally of 46 goals from their 21 League One matches this season is eight more than any other team have mustered and there looks a strong chance that there will be a few goals in south-east London on Sunday.
Just one of Wanderers’ 12 away games this season has failed to generate at least three goals and the Chairboys have scored 18 goals on the last six occasions they have been on their travels.
Charlton boss Jones has received some criticism for his team’s football being somewhat uninspiring, but playing against a team who would not be happy with a point from their trip to The Valley could result in the home side being more of an attacking force.
Tyreece Campbell brings pace and netted inside a minute in the 2-1 Boxing Day victory against Cambridge and they should at least be positive.
Their 5-0 win at Northampton and a 4-0 FA Cup success at League Two runaway leaders Walsall show that Charlton can be an attacking force, so an odds-against price about there being more than two goals looks an attractive bet.
Richard Kone to score at any time - 12/5
Richard Kone looks to be Wycombe's chief goal threat and it would not be a surprise if he boosted his tally at The Valley.
The striker took his league and cup seasonal total to 14 goals when he netted a brace in Thursday’s 3-0 victory at Stevenage and that performance came as a big boost as it ended a run of five league matches without a goal.
He had three efforts on goal in the goalless home draw against Bolton before registering four, all of which were on target, at Broadhall Way on Boxing Day and it is worth noting that eight of his 11 league goals this term have come when the Chairboys have been on the road.
