Celtic v Dundee United: Tips, Predictions and Odds

After only losing narrowly in the UEFA Champions League to Bayern Munich in midweek, Celtic should secure a 22nd league win of the campaign when they host Dundee United this weekend.

The visitors have not been in the best form recently but are clinging to third spot in the Scottish Premiership table and have the league’s top scorer in Sam Dalby in their ranks.

Celtic v Dundee United betting tips and predictions

Celtic to win and both teams to score - 13/8

Celtic acquitted themselves well against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, going down 2-1 to the European giants.

The Bhoys put the Bavarians under pressure at times, particularly in the last 20 minutes, and may feel slightly aggrieved that they did not nick a draw.

Their UEFA Champions League exploits are sure to have taken plenty out of the hosts’ legs so rotation looks likely for this Scottish Premiership clash.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are 13 points clear at the top of the table, having won all but four of their 25 league games this term.

They have been almost untouchable at home, winning 11 of their 12 league games, and are now strong favourites to secure a domestic treble after rivals Rangers were knocked out of the Scottish Cup.

The Hoops take on a Dundee United side whose form has taken a big hit recently, losing four of their last five games.

They remain in third place thanks to their exploits earlier in the campaign and finishing there will be the aim for Jim Goodwin’s side.

The Tangerines were shut out by Celtic when the two met last month but given the likely changes to the hosts' line-up, the away side are fancied to get on the scoresheet.

That defensive display against Bayern Munich will have taken plenty out of this squad and both teams have scored in six of Celtic’s last nine games in all competitions anyway.

The Bhoys' quality should be too much but do not discount Dundee United getting on the scoresheet, albeit in defeat.

Luke McCowan to score anytime - 7/4

Luke McCowan moved from Dundee United’s city rivals Dundee to Celtic earlier this season and has impressed in his role as a back-up option in midfield.

With all three of Celtic’s central midfielders playing 90 minutes against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, McCowan looks extremely likely to start as that trio are rested with the second leg on Tuesday in mind.

The 27-year-old has been in good goalscoring form this season, netting seven times in the league from just 12 starts.

Goals have often been a key part of McCowan’s game, he netted 10 from midfield last term, and he looks likely to add to his tally in this game.

Will Ferry to be shown a card - 7/4

Will Ferry has played in a number of positions for Dundee United this season but one constant has been his struggles with discipline.

The 24-year-old has been booked nine times, including in each of his last three games, and he faces another tough task against a dominant Celtic side.

Take Ferry to land himself in the referee’s notebook once more this weekend.
