Cardiff City v Coventry City: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Coventry City are showing some good signs under Frank Lampard and they can secure all three points at Cardiff City in the Championship on New Year's Day.

Lampard has won three of his seven games in charge of the Sky Blues, also securing two draws and suffering two defeats, since he came in as Mark Robins' replacement at the end of November.

It started with a 2-2 draw at home to Wednesday's opponents, Cardiff, and now Lampard's Sky Blues can pick up all three points in the return game in Wales.

Cardiff City v Coventry City betting tips and predictions

Coventry City to win - 13/10

Lampard will be fairly satisfied with the start he's made to life in charge of Coventry and his side could yet push for a play-off place in the second half of the season.

The Sky Blues are 15th, nine points adrift of the top six, but they can boost their outside promotion hopes with victory at the Cardiff City Stadium to kick off 2025 in the right manner.

During his brief tenure, the former Chelsea and Everton boss has overseen an away win at Millwall and home victories over Plymouth Argyle and Hull City to suggest things are moving in the right direction.

There have been setbacks with defeats at Portsmouth and West Brom, while he began his reign with a hard-fought 2-2 draw at home to the Bluebirds.

Despite Sunday's impressive win at Watford, Cardiff remain in the relegation zone in the Championship and Omer Riza knows he could be in for a tough second half of the season with his side in danger of dropping down to League One.

The 2-1 success at Vicarage Road ended a nine-game run without a win as two goals from Callum Robinson stunned the Hornets.

However, it's difficult to see Cardiff following up with another three points, and instead, the away side are fancied to come out on top on New Year's Day.

Victor Torp to score anytime - 11/2

With Coventry set to be without key forward Ephron Mason-Clark and seven-goal top scorer Haji Wright due to injury for Wednesday's clash, someone else will have to step up to the plate for the visitors.

Victor Torp could well be the man to inspire Lampard's team at the Cardiff City Stadium as he looks for his third league goal of the season and first since he netted the late equaliser from the spot when the two sides met a month ago.

Torp has been operating in a slightly more attacking role in the past couple of games and he's attempted four shots in those games against Plymouth and Millwall to hint another goal may not be too far away.

Alex Robertson to be booked - 21/10

Cardiff midfielder Alex Robertson appears to be a prime candidate for a yellow card on New Year's Day.

The 21-year-old has been booked three times this season, most recently in the 3-2 defeat on Boxing Day against Oxford United, and he could be busy in the middle of the park as he attempts to stop Coventry from gaining control of the game.

Robertson has given away 27 fouls in the Championship this season - two more than anyone else in the Bluebirds squad and he could be in trouble with the officials again on Wednesday.
