Cambridge United v Huddersfield Town: Prediction, Tips and Odds

After holding third-placed Wrexham to a draw in their last League One fixture, a relegation-threatened Cambridge United will now be hoping to dent Huddersfield Town’s promotion prospects at the Abbey Stadium.

While Huddersfield sit fourth in League One following a 10-game unbeaten run, Cambridge are third-bottom and four points adrift of safety after winning only one of their last seven third-tier matches.

However, Huddersfield were frustrated in a 2-2 draw at home to Lincoln City last weekend, which ended a four-game winning streak, and they head to a Cambridge side who tend to fare pretty well in their own surroundings.

Garry Monk’s hosts are unbeaten in five at home and that includes 1-1 draws with Bolton Wanderers and Barnsley, two sides like the Terriers that are firmly in the promotion picture.

Cambridge United v Huddersfield Town betting tips and predictions

Draw - 13/5

With Huddersfield in fourth and Cambridge languishing down in 22nd, many may feel that this represents an excellent opportunity for the promotion-chasing Terriers and the markets tend to agree.

Huddersfield are odds-on to take their unbeaten run to 11 with victory and if they win it will be their eighth success during that timeframe.

However, Huddersfield have won only four of their opening nine away games in League One and that includes a 2-2 draw at fourth-bottom Crawley Town.

Monk’s sides make it difficult for the opposition and Cambridge have been pretty reliable at home in recent times, taking 11 points from their last five home fixtures.

Despite only winning one of their last seven matches, Cambridge have drawn four fixtures during that spell and they would settle for another point against such in-form rivals.

Cambridge have drawn with Bolton, Barnsley and Wrexham, three top-eight sides, in that period and they will believe they have the resources to frustrate Huddersfield.

So, while many may be tempted to go with Huddersfield to outclass their rivals, Cambridge may be able to stand firm and clinch a much-needed point.

Dan Nlundulu to score at anytime - 15/4

Dan Nlundulu has been rejuvenated since making a loan switch from Bolton to Cambridge and the former Southampton academy graduate may be able to add to his goalscoring tally against Huddersfield.

The powerful 25-year-old forward has netted five goals in 19 appearances for Cambridge this season, scoring in back-to-back league games against Shrewsbury Town and Wrexham.

With each of Cambridge’s last five matches going over 2.5 goals, there is the potential for this to be entertaining and Nlundulu has the attributes to cause plenty of problems for the Terriers.

Correct score - 2-2 draw - 14/1

Both Cambridge and Huddersfield played out 2-2 draws last weekend with Wrexham and Lincoln respectively and it may be worth taking a small chance on a repeat outcome at the Abbey Stadium on Friday.

Five of Cambridge’s last eight matches in all competitions have finished level after 90 minutes and, having held both Bolton and Barnsley at home, they will have plenty of optimism for this fixture despite their lowly league position.

Huddersfield have also drawn two of their last three away league games and one of those matches, at struggling Crawley, finished 2-2.

It is worth noting that both teams have scored in seven of Cambridge’s last nine matches and this may not be as routine for Huddersfield as the league table would indicate.
