Leeds have made a strong start in their bid for promotion, taking 59 points from their opening 28 Championship matches to lead the way in the English second tier.
However, as is so often the case in the Championship, they have company at the summit. Sheffield United are just one point behind the Whites while Sunderland and Burnley, who they face next, are also in the mix for a top-two finish.
The Clarets were tipped by many at the start of the season to go up with Leeds and they are in the process of proving those backers right, sitting just three points behind Daniel Farke’s side. Monday’s clash at Turf Moor could, therefore, have huge implications for the rest of the season with both sides likely to be battling for promotion deep into the spring.
Both teams are in excellent form, though, and there may be little to split Burnley and Leeds in Lancashire.
Draw - 21/10
Given that they are unbeaten in 11 games and can be simply irresistible on their day, an odds-against price for top-of-the-table Leeds to get the job done at Turf Moor is certainly tempting.
The Whites’ last six wins have all been accompanied by a clean sheet and Farke seems to have finally struck the balance between a solid defence and a free-flowing attack, with a star-studded squad including Ethan Ampadu, Brendan Aaronson and Joel Piroe capable of easing past any second-tier side when at their best.
However, the issue is that their best performances seem to be reserved for Elland Road, with their away record paling in comparison to the brilliant one Leeds hold on their own patch.
The Whites have picked up a respectable 21 points on the road but that is still 17 fewer than they have mustered at home, suggesting they may be vulnerable at Turf Moor, where Burnley are yet to lose this term.
The Clarets have proved difficult to beat under Scott Parker, thanks in large part to a fantastic defence who have shipped just nine league goals all season. The fact that they extended a stunning unbeaten run to 16 games with a 5-0 rout of Plymouth in the week could have punters rushing to back the hosts at a big price.
But, while Burnley are unbeaten at home, wins have been hard to come by. The Clarets have won just six of the 13 games in their unbeaten sequence at Turf Moor, making the draw a huge runner in this top-four showdown.
Jaidon Anthony over 0.5 shots on target - 10/11
Parker’s priority this season has been creating a solid defence but that has had an effect on the performance of Burnley’s forwards, with only two players scoring more than five league goals this term, and one of those is midfielder Josh Brownhill.
Jaidon Anthony is one of the Clarets’ misfiring forwards, scoring just three goals this term, although that is not for want of trying as the winger has racked up 55 shots in 25 appearances. He will be out to impress against Leeds.
The 25-year-old spent last season on loan with the Whites but could manage only one league goal and struggled for regular playing time. He has not had that issue at Turf Moor, though, as Parker has started Anthony 24 times this term.
Anthony is only growing in confidence, taking 20 shots across his last seven games, and he is fancied to test Leeds keeper Illan Meslier at least once on Monday.
Bashir Humphreys to be booked - 9/2
Lucas Pires lined up at left-back for Burnley’s 5-0 rout at Plymouth but it would be no surprise to see Parker revert to using a more defensive-minded option against Leeds, with Bashir Humphreys likely to come back in.
The Chelsea loanee has been the Clarets’ first-choice left-back for most of the season and he has enjoyed a strong campaign bar a single low point - a red card against Leeds in September.
Humphreys played at right-back that day and was caused a world of problems by Manor Solomon. Things are unlikely to be much easier in this reverse fixture, in which he will be asked to keep tabs on arguably the Championship’s fastest player, Dan James.
James could cause the young defender a few problems on Monday and 9/2 looks a big price for Humphreys to pick up his fourth yellow card of the campaign
