Bromley v Solihull Moors: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Neither Bromley nor Solihull Moors have played in the Football League before, but that will change next season as the two battle it out at Wembley in the National League play-off final.

Bromley, who finished third in the National League made it past Altrincham to reach the final with a 3-1 victory last Sunday, while Solihull had a much tougher route to Wembley having finished fifth in the regular season.

The Moors beat Halifax 4-2 in an eliminator to set up a date with Barnet, who were by far and away the second-best team in the league this term. Solihull defied the odds however, landing a spectacular 4-0 victory at the Hive to reach the final, and that momentum could be vital at Wembley.

Solihull Moors to lift the trophy - 19/20

These two have met on three occasions already this season, with the results suggesting there is very little between them. The first league meeting finished 1-1 before Bromley dispatched Solihull 3-0 in the reverse fixture last month.

However, the meeting that could hold most sway was the FA Trophy semi-final clash early last month, which the Moors won 2-1. Knockout football is a completely different sphere to the league equivalent, and Solihull’s impressive 2-1 victory in that semi-final hints that they thrive on the big occasions, which could give them the edge in their biggest match since reaching the 2021 play-off final.

Their 4-0 thrashing of Barnet in the play-off semi-finals is another indicator of their big-game prowess and they hold all the momentum coming into this tie, with six wins in their last seven matches compared to the Ravens’ run of three in the same number of outings.

A worry for Bromley will be their low-scoring nature in comparison to the Moors. The Ravens have managed 15 goals in their last 10 games, with Solihull scoring three more in the same period and netting four in each of their play-off games so far.

Moors have the momentum, as well as the slight historic edge over Bromley having won eight of the 18 meetings between the pair compared to the Ravens’ seven, and should be backed to reach League Two, although they may need extra-time or even penalties to do so.

The last three National League play-off finals have gone to extra-time and as there was only five points between the pair in the standings and they have each won one of their meetings this term, drawing the other, it would be no surprise to see another go over 90 minutes on Sunday, so back Solihull to lift the trophy rather than to win in normal time.

Tahvon Campbell to score any time- 21/10

Tahvon Campbell has been the star for Solihull in the play-offs so far, netting two goals and assisting two more, and the Moors forward could be the man to step up at Wembley.

The journeyman striker has struggled for consistency throughout his career but he looks to have finally found a home at Damson Park. He had a loan spell with the Moors back in 2017 but seems to have come on leaps and bounds since then, as he has netted four goals in his seven Solihull appearances this season.

Bromley have kept just one clean sheet in their last seven games, suggesting they can be got at in this final and Campbell could be the biggest beneficiary of their shaky defence.

Myles Weston to score any time - 15/4

If Campbell was the star for Solihull in the semi-finals, Myles Weston was nothing less than the hero for Bromley, with his brace against Altrincham firing them to Wembley.

The experienced winger hadn’t scored for the Ravens prior to that semi-final, but there was no better time to break his duck and the Antigua and Barbuda international may be finding form at just the right time.

Momentum is huge in these scenarios and Weston is the sort of player to build on that form on the big stage. He has a wealth of Football League experience, as well as an exceptional international record of nine goals in 16 games, and his nous could help Bromley at Wembley.
