Bristol City v Swansea City: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Four straight home league wins have helped Liam Manning’s Bristol City get into the fight for a Championship play-off place, and they look unlikely to slip up at Ashton Gate against Swansea.

Bristol City v Swansea City betting tips and predictions

Bristol City to win - 17/20

Strong recent form at Ashton Gate has been the main reason why Bristol City have elevated themselves into the Championship playoff picture, and with the race for a top-six spot in the second tier typically competitive, they should not let up when Swansea City make the trip across the Severn Bridge on Sunday.

Liam Manning’s side showed great tenacity last week to earn a 1-1 draw at Oxford United after seeing Joe Williams and Ross McCrorie get sent off, and that should stand them in good stead after they started the weekend two points outside the playoff places.

Swansea, meanwhile, have been having a tough time after being dumped out of the FA Cup 3-0 at Premier League basement boys Southampton.

A 3-0 loss against arch-rivals Cardiff City followed and a 5-1 defeat at Norwich City in their most recent away fixtures punctuated home losses to Sheffield United and Coventry City.

They started the weekend in 17th and while the prospect of relegation is not an immediate concern as they started the weekend enjoying a seven-point cushion from the bottom three, they cannot allow for this situation to carry on for much longer.

Unfortunately, though, it is unlikely to get much better immediately and like recent visitors Luton Town, Portsmouth, Derby County and Blackburn Rovers, they could be set to leave Ashton Gate with nothing to show for their efforts.

Nakhi Wells to anytime goalscorer - 21/10

Anis Mehmeti leads the Robins league goalscoring charts with nine, but the Albanian has not found the net in his last five outings, so those looking for a goalscorer bet in Sunday’s clash should turn instead to their veteran striker Nakhi Wells.

The 34-year-old Bermudan has seven successful efforts to his name in the second tier this season and he looks to have his eye in after generating 11 attempts on goal in his last four outings for the Robins.

He drew a blank against Oxford last week, but before that, he was on target in the 2-2 draw at Sheffield Wednesday and fired home the winner in his last Ashton Gate appearance when the Robins beat Blackburn 2-1.

So he has some good recent goalscoring form in the book and represents some decent value to increase his tally on Sunday.

Over 10.5 corners - Evs

While Swansea find themselves in the bottom third of the table, it should be noted that they can force a fair few corners when they are on the road.

Only Championship leaders Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday have forced more away flag-kicks than the Swans average of 5.67 per game and that should help them contribute to a big total in Sunday’s Anglo-Welsh showdown.

Bristol City are seventh in the second-tier corner charts with an average of 5.53 per outing and as that total goes up to 5.86 in their Ashton Gate assignments, it is worth backing there to be more than 10.5 in Sunday’s encounter.
