Sheffield Wednesday moved out of the Championship relegation zone thanks to a thrilling 3-2 victory at home to table-topping West Brom on Saturday, but the Owls have plenty to prove on their travels.
Danny Rohl’s side had failed to win in five league games prior to springing a surprise on the Baggies and they head to Bristol City having suffered defeat in all three of their away trips this season.
City have had one less day to prepare following their 1-1 draw at Swansea City on Sunday, but they were arguably deserving of more and they have been proving pretty formidable at Ashton Gate.
The Robins have taken seven points from three home league outings this season and that has stretched their unbeaten run at Ashton Gate to eight Championship matches.
Bristol City to win - 23/20
It has been a stop-start season so far for City, but they come into this Championship clash with Wednesday on the back of two convincing performances.
The Robins were 2-1 winners at home to Oxford United in their last home league game and they built on that in Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Swansea, where they finished strongly and may feel they were deserving of more having won the shot count 15-7.
Liam Manning’s side have taken seven points from three home league fixtures this season, having edged past Millwall 4-3 before a 1-1 draw with Coventry City.
They are now unbeaten in eight home league matches and last season they recorded victories over promoted pair Southampton and Leicester City, which highlights their capabilities when armed with strong home support.
The Robins carved a 1-0 win at home to Wednesday last season and, despite the Owls’ strong Saturday success, they are taken to replicate that performance.
Wednesday will be in a pretty confident mood following their shock 3-2 victory at home to league leaders West Brom on Saturday, but those efforts have been extremely rare on the road.
The Owls have lost all three away league games at Sunderland, Millwall and Luton Town this season and they have conceded nine goals, a defensive deficiency City’s array of attackers will be hopeful of exploiting.
Wednesday have the second worst defensive record in the Championship behind only basement boys Cardiff, having shipped 14 times in seven league outings, and may be found wanting in this battle in Bristol.
Sinclair Armstrong to score at anytime - 12/5
Forward Sinclair Armstrong arrived at Bristol City from QPR in the summer and the next step will be for him to add more goals to his game.
Armstrong’s opening seven league appearances have seen him chip in with goals in City’s home wins over Millwall and Oxford and there should be plenty more to come from him given the pace and power he possesses.
The 21-year-old should develop as the season progresses and, given Manning has been trusting him to lead the line, he looks a big price at 12/5 to get on the scoresheet against the leaky Owls.
Armstrong’s opening seven league games have seen him rack up 15 shots and he should get plenty of chances to add to his tally against Wednesday, who have conceded nine goals in three away league games.
Over 2.5 Sheffield Wednesday cards - 11/8
City have a pretty dynamic attack with Scott Twine, Anis Mehmeti and Max Bird offering support to Armstrong and they should pose plenty of problems for Wednesday.
That could contribute to a number of cards for the Owls, who have racked up 14 yellows and one red across their opening seven league games.
Wednesday’s last three matches in all competitions have seen them collect at least three bookings and the trend may continue against Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
In last season’s two Championship meetings, Wednesday received a red card on each occasion and the 11/8 on offer for them to pick up at least three bookings must make appeal given they are likely to be under the cosh.
