Brighton are enjoying a memorable first season under Fabian Hurzeler and they should be confident of seeing their way past Southampton, who are finding life difficult back in the Premier League.
The Saints have tasted victory in just one of their top-flight games this term, but the Seagulls’ habit of conceding goals will give them hope for their trip to the Amex Stadium.
Brighton to win & both teams to score - 13/8
It is already turning into a memorable season for Brighton and even their most optimistic of fans would have been hard pushed to have predicted they could go second in the Premier League with a win over Southampton in their 12th match of the campaign.
After taking over from Roberto De Zerbi in the summer, new manager Hurzeler has hit the ground running and three points against the promoted Saints would leave the Seagulls as the closest challengers to leaders Liverpool.
The Reds are one of only two teams - Chelsea are the other - to have beaten Brighton this season and Albion will be confident they can see off a side who have taken a full return from just one of their league outings, even though there have been plenty of thrills and spills.
It is notable that Brighton have kept a clean sheet in just two of their 11 games since they posted a 3-0 win at Everton on the opening weekend and that could provide an in towards a strong betting option in a match where the home side are regarded as heavy favourites.
The Seagulls beat champions Manchester City 2-1 in their last home match and that came after some other entertaining clashes at the Amex, when they came from two goals down to beat Tottenham and conceded two late goals to draw 2-2 with Wolves.
Southampton have yet to collect a point on the road this term and the signs of a struggle were evident in their first game when they fell to a 1-0 loss at Newcastle despite playing against ten men for more than an hour.
It looks a big task for Russell Martin's side to avoid the drop this season, but they have failed to score in just three of their last ten league games.
Kaoru Mitoma to score at any time - 7/4
Former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck heads the Brighton goalscoring charts, but don’t leave Kaoru Mitoma out of the anytime goalscorer picture.
The Japanese attacker scored his second goal of the campaign in last week’s 2-1 win over Bournemouth, but that strike has been coming, as only Welbeck has registered more than his 10 shots on target for the South Coast outfit this season.
That should mean more opportunities come the former Union Saint-Gilloise wideman’s way and he can add to his tally in Friday's clash.
Flynn Downes to be booked - 6/4
Saints' Flynn Dones is flirting with a domestic suspension after receiving four yellow cards in his 11 Premier League appearances this season and this could be the week when his one-match ban is finally confirmed.
Downes has committed a total of 19 fouls this season and has also been fouled 18 times, so the visitors' midfielder can be expected to be at the heart of the Amex action.
He has been pulled up for multiple indiscretions in four of his last six outings, so there looks to be a strong chance he could receive that fifth caution.
