Brighton v Roma: Predictions, Tips and Odds

Brighton will have to make history if they are to reach the Europa League quarter-finals at the expense of Italian powerhouses Roma.

No side has ever overturned a four-goal deficit in a Europa League knockout tie to progress and the Seagulls could well be playing for pride at the Amex Stadium.

Visitors Roma continue to excel under Danielle De Rossi but they were held to a 2-2 draw by Fiorentina in Serie A on Sunday and they may be tempted to ring the changes given their advantage from the first leg.

Brighton v Roma betting tips and predictions

Over 3.5 goals - 13/8

While cases can be made for both sides to win this second leg, the best bet overall is over 3.5 goals.

Ultimately, Brighton have to attack this game. The chances of overturning the deficit are incredibly slim but they will want to give it everything they have and at least restore some pride in front of their home fans.

And they are no strangers to scoring goals, having racked up 50 in 28 games in the Premier League this term and their league matches are averaging 3.36 goals per game.

Both teams have scored in 21 of their 28 matches in the top flight and their quality going forwards coupled with their vulnerability at the back means they are often involved in high-scoring games.

The same can also be said for Roma, whose last four games in all competitions have each produced over 3.5 goals.

They averaged two goals per game in the competition's group stage and while they could choose to rest key attacking players for this contest, they have plenty of attacking depth and can contribute to a high-octane game.

Brighton to win - 3/4

For those eager to back a match result, Brighton are the pick.

Engaged in the battle for the top four in Serie A, Roma will likely take this as an opportunity to rest players and play more conservatively.

De Rossi will of course be aware of complacency but his side could nonetheless slip to defeat.

Brighton have been up and down since the turn of the year but posted an important 1-0 home win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday and seven of their 11 wins in the Premier League have come at home this season.

Roma have won only once in 22 previous visits to England and the second leg on the south coast may not be as comfortable as the first leg was in the Italian capital.

Paulo Dybala to score at anytime - 3/1

There are numerous options in the goalscorer markets for this contest from Evan Ferguson to Romelu Lukaku, but Paulo Dybala may be the wise pick.

It was only a matter of time before Dybala carried his excellent league form into the Europa League and he started the thrashing in the first leg with his goal in the 13th minute.

He was lively in the match, excelling on the flank, and he has been a reliable source of goals in Serie A this season.

The Argentinian ace has scored 12 times and laid on seven assists in Serie A this season, averaging a goal every 126 minutes.

He has plenty of creative outlets around him and, given Brighton will be playing on the front foot to chase this tie, there should be plenty of chances for Roma to strike on the counter-attack.

Dybala should be the greatest beneficiary of that dynamic and looks ready to make an impact against the Seagulls.
