Brentford v Tottenham Hotspur: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping they can transfer their European form onto the domestic stage when they head to the Gtech Community Stadium to face Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday.

Spurs defeated Elfsborg 3-0 on Thursday in the UEFA Europa League, securing a place in the last-16 stage of the competition and delivering a much-needed boost to a side under immense pressure.

While the cup competitions are going well for the Lilywhites, their league campaign has been a struggle and they are languishing in the bottom half of the standings.

Up next is a trip to Brentford, who head into this clash on the back of a rare away success against Crystal Palace last time out.

Brentford v Tottenham Hotspur betting tips and predictions

Brentford to win - 11/10

Brentford once boasted the best home record in the division this season, having won seven and drawn one of their opening eight league matches at the Gtech Community Stadium.

However, West London has not been a happy hunting ground for the Bees of late, with defeats to Nottingham Forest, Arsenal, Plymouth Argyle (FA Cup) and Liverpool coming alongside a draw against Manchester City in their last five home assignments.

But, barring the shock loss to the Pilgrims, that has been a tough run of fixtures for Thomas Frank's side and they look capable of getting back to winning ways at the Gtech at Tottenham's expense.

Spurs have lost their last four top-flight matches and have taken just one point from the last 21 on offer, a run of results that has seen the club plummet down the table.

Head coach Ange Postecoglou finds himself under serious pressure and, while Thursday's European victory over Elfsborg will have provided some respite, Tottenham failed to break down their Swedish opponents until the final 20 minutes.

The former Celtic boss has had to deal with a horrendous injury list this season and things were made worse when Radu Dragusin, who came on as a substitute in the UEFA Europa League tie, was forced off with an injury.

With Dominic Solanke, James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner, Cristian Romero and Wilson Odobert already in the treatment room, this latest blow further exemplifies the need for reinforcements.

Tottenham have lost four of their last five away matches in the league - the sole success coming at rock-bottom Southampton - and their already stretched squad may struggle to cope with a Brentford side on the up after last weekend's win at Palace.

Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa to both have over 0.5 shots on target - 1/1

Brentford and Tottenham have both adopted an attack-minded approach this season, with 82 combined goals being seen in the Bees' league game and 83 for Spurs.

Postecoglou's side are giving up an average of 13.58 shots per game in all competitions this season and there should be plenty of scoring opportunities for Brentford, who are averaging 5.09 shots on target per match in the league.

The two chief tormentors for the Bees are Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa, who have scored 14 and 11 goals respectively in the top flight this term.

Wissa has managed at least one effort on target in his last four league appearances, while Mbeumo has tested the goalkeeper in his last five top-flight assignments.

Djed Spence to be booked - 15/4

While Tottenham's injury crisis was added to in midweek, one player who looks set to return from a spell on the sidelines is full-back Djed Spence.

The 24-year-old will likely be thrust back into the starting XI if fully recovered and he could be in for a difficult afternoon against the Bees.

Spence committed at least one foul in his last two appearances before picking up an injury and the attacking nature of this Spurs side often leaves the defence exposed.

The English defender, who was sent off in the loss at Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day, looks like good value to go in the book on his return from a lay-off.
