Newcastle know only a win will do in their pursuit of a place in next season’s Conference League as they bid to catch Chelsea, and stay ahead of Manchester United.
Brentford have endured a tough campaign and flirted with relegation for much of the season. The Bees have little left to play for but will be keen to finish the campaign on a high in front of their own fans.
Newcastle to win - 5/4
Newcastle’s 3-2 defeat at Manchester United on Wednesday put a dent in their European hopes but their challenge isn’t necessarily over and they can give themselves a chance of Europa Conference League football by winning at Brentford on Sunday.
The Magpies need to win and hope Chelsea lose at home to Bournemouth if they are to finish sixth, although seventh would be good enough for European football if Manchester City win the FA Cup.
The Bees have been in solid form to finish off what has been a difficult season and they are unbeaten in five at home. However, they have won only one of those games and they’ve failed to score in two of their last three at this venue.
Newcastle were unfortunate at Old Trafford, they enjoyed more possession and created more chances than their hosts, and a similar performance this weekend should be enough for maximum points against a Brentford side with little to play for.
Eddie Howe’s side beat the Bees 1-0 in the reverse fixture and have won each of the last four meetings, and they can make it five in a row in South West London.
Anthony Gordon to score any time - 15/8
Anthony Gordon sustained a knock to the ankle in Newcastle’s midweek defeat at Manchester United so there is a slight concern he could miss the season finale, but he is expected to feature and if he is involved he offers excellent value for an anytime goal.
The big money signing from Everton has been one of Newcastle’s standout performers in his first full season with the club and his strike at Old Trafford was his 11th of the campaign in the Premier League and his 12th overall, making this season his most productive to date by some distance.
The 23-year-old gets plenty of chances as he averages 2.3 shots per-game and has had seven attempts in total across his last three appearances, so Gordon looks a strong any time scorer option at a big price ahead of Sunday’s contest at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Bruno Guimaraes to have over 0.5 shots on target - 9/4
There is a chance this could be Bruno Guimaraes’ last game for Newcastle as he is being heavily linked with a summer exit, as the Magpies may have to sacrifice some of their current stars if they are to add to their squad significantly over the summer due to FFP rules.
The fan favourite has managed six goals this term and will be keen to finish the season on a high, particularly if this does prove to be the end of his spell with the club.
Bruno has averaged a solid 1.3 shots per-game over the season but has upped his output in that regard in recent weeks, with 11 attempts in total over his last five appearances - and average of 2.2 per-game.
Bruno tends to be fairly accurate as around 60 percent of his attempts are either on target or blocked and, at 9/4 to have at least one attempt on target, he looks a strong value play in this particular market.
