Brentford v Manchester United: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Brentford and Manchester United will meet in a rare 20:00 kick-off in the Premier League on Saturday night with both sides in need of the points.

Struggling Brentford have lost 12 of their last 15 top-flight games, a run that has dragged them into the relegation battle, as they will head into the weekend sitting just five points above the drop zone.

United, meanwhile, sit sixth in the standings and still harbour hopes of finishing in the top four, while they will be buoyed by their FA Cup victory over Liverpool before the international break.

Over 3.5 goals - 13/10

Since beating Luton at the start of December, Brentford's form has nose-dived as they have lost 12 of their subsequent 15 league games, collecting just seven points over that period, the fewest of any side in the division.

That has set the alarm bells ringing at the Gtech Community Stadium, but the Bees do still have a five-point cushion between themselves and the bottom three, while unlike many of their relegation rivals, they are scoring goals on a regular basis.

Out of the sides beginning the weekend in the bottom eight of the standings, only Luton (42) have scored more goals than Brentford's tally of 41 and their goalscoring hopes have been boosted further by the recent return to fitness of Bryan Mbeumo, while Ivan Toney scored his first goal for England during the international break.

Despite their lack of positive results over recent months, Thomas Frank's side have scored in 12 of their last 13 league games, although keeping teams out at the other end remains a problem, as they have kept just one clean-sheet across their last 19 matches in the top flight.

United's recent matches have also been filled with goals, with 13 being scored across their last three games in all competitions, most notably seven in their 4-3 extra-time success over Liverpool in the cup.

Erik ten Hag's side have scored in 14 matches on the spin across all competitions, but just three clean sheets in 11, a statistic not helped by their recent injury problems at the back, does not make for great reading.

The previous two meetings between Brentford and United at the Gtech Community Stadium have both seen four goals scored and given these two sides are better going forward than they are defensively, that tally could be matched or bettered on Saturday night.

Bryan Mbeumo to score anytime - 7/4

It is no surprise that Brentford's dip in form coincided with the injury absence of Cameroon international forward Mbeumo, who missed over three months of action with an ankle injury picked up against Brighton in December.

Mbeumo returned as a late substitute at Burnley before the international break and with another two weeks of training under his belt, he could be primed to start against United.

Despite missing a large chunk of the season, Mbeumo remains Brentford's joint-leading scorer in the Premier League with seven goals.

The 24-year-old also netted the last time United visited the Gtech Community Stadium in August 2022 when Brentford claimed a memorable 4-0 win.

A similarly emphatic victory may be unlikely this time around, but Mbeumo scoring isn't, and he could offer good value to net anytime at 7/4.

Bruno Fernandes to be booked - 13/5

United captain Bruno Fernandes is no stranger to referees, as he has picked up eight bookings in the Premier League this season, more than any other member of Ten Hag's squad.

The Portugal international was also booked in United's FA Cup success over Liverpool, taking his tally to 11 yellow cards for the season across all competitions, which is a higher mark than he has for both goals (eight) and assists (nine).

Having also been booked on his most recent visit to Brentford, it would be no surprise to see Fernandes feel the wrath of the referee again on Saturday and he is 13/5 to be booked during the contest.
