Crystal Palace will be hoping to make a strong start to the season when they make the trip to the Gtech Community Stadium to face Brentford on Sunday.
Crystal Palace to win - 2/1
Palace wouldn’t have wanted the season to end back in May after a string of strong performances shot them up the table, including eye-catching victories over Manchester United (4-0) and Aston Villa (5-0).
Oliver Glasner’s style clicked immediately with this Palace side and their limited squad turnover surely helps them in that regard.
They’re expected to start with just one new signing - Daichi Kamada in place of the departed Michael Olise. The Japanese international played for Glasner at Eintracht Frankfurt, so he has every chance of starting quickly.
The Eagles head into this contest as outsiders, but they were able to show in the run-in that they’re capable of being a top-half side if not more.
Last season Brentford won just once in 15 clashes at home to sides above them, losing seven times. Injury issues still plague them and the Ivan Toney situation is a cloud over the club, so Palace look like great value for the win at 2/1.
Eberechi Eze to score any time - 12/5
While Olise’s move to Bayern Munich is a clear blow, it was Eberechi Eze who was delivering in key moments towards the end of the campaign. The England international looks set to stay following reports that his release clause has expired and he can emerge as Palace’s main man this term.
Eze scored in four of Palace’s final six games last term, netting five goals in that stretch. He scored in victories at Anfield and Molineux and he can make a bright start to the new campaign.
Daichi Kamada over 0.5 shots on target and Daniel Munoz to be carded - 17/2
Kamada has had a solid pre-season, scoring in two of their warm-up games. Looking back at his recent history, it’s notable that his shots on target per game dipped during his spell at Lazio last season.
He had just 10 shots on target across all competitions, compared with 21 during his previous season under Glasner. Given his high-intensity approach, Kamada should become more of a goal threat this term and he’s good value for a shot on target.
January signing Daniel Munoz also fits into Glasner’s approach, although the Colombian was booked four times in 16 games for Palace last season. He picked up nine league cards in total last term including his spell with Genk, while he was booked 10 times in the previous campaign in Belgium.
Munoz was sent off at the Copa America in the summer and the wing-back looks like he’ll attract the attention of referees this season.
