Brazil v Uruguay: Prediction, Tips and Odds

The CONMEBOL World Cup 2026 qualifying action continues in the early hours of Wednesday, when Brazil welcome Uruguay to the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador.

Uruguay sit second in the table, having collected 19 points from 11 games, while Brazil are two points and two places worse off than their opponents heading into this contest.

The Selecao recorded a disappointing 1-1 draw at Venezuela on Thursday, a result that did extend their unbeaten run to three matches, while La Celeste secured a dramatic 3-2 victory at home to Colombia on Saturday.

With the qualification standings tight heading into matchday 12, with just three points separating second from sixth, so both sides will be looking for a win that would push them a step closer to the finals.

Brazil v Uruguay betting tips and predictions

Draw or Uruguay - double chance - 11/10

Although Brazil have suffered just one defeat from their last five matches, the performances during this period haven't been convincing and they laboured to a draw against a Venezuela side who have won just twice in qualifying.

Dorival Junior's side had won their two games prior to that share of the spoils, beating Chile 2-1 and Peru 4-0, but they also went down 1-0 to Paraguay in September and that is evidence of their inconsistent displays.

Brazil's last five home matches have resulted in one defeat, two draws and two victories, so they could be in for a tricky clash when they host a reinvigorated Uruguay.

La Celeste hadn't scored in four games in a row leading into Saturday's visit of Colombia, only to then find the back of the net three times in a potentially crucial 3-2 success.

Uruguay defeated Brazil 2-0 in October's reverse fixture at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, before then overcoming the five-time world champions on penalties in the Copa America quarter-finals after the pair played out a 0-0 draw.

Marcelo Bielsa's side have had two days less to prepare for this clash, having played on Saturday compared to Brazil on Thursday, meaning fatigue could possibly play a part.

With that in mind, the safer play here is to back Uruguay to win or draw in the double chance market, with a share of the spoils not a bad result for either side in the grand scheme of things.

Manuel Ugarte to have over 0.5 shots on target - 11/2

Manchester United ace Manuel Ugarte was the star of the show for Uruguay on Saturday, as he climbed off the bench to score the winner in the 11th minute of stoppage time.

That was the 23-year-old's first senior goal at international level and he may have done enough to earn himself a place in the starting XI for the Brazil showdown.

While scoring for the second game in a row may be asking a lot of the defensive midfielder, he looks like a value play at 11/2 to test the goalkeeper at least once.

Brazil allowed Venezuela to have 12 attempts on Thursday, with five of those ending up on target, and a more attacking Uruguay can carve open more opportunities to get some shots away.

Whether starting or coming off the bench again, Ugarte looks capable of playing another important role for his country.
