Bournemouth v Newcastle United: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Newcastle United will be hoping to land another three points on Sunday when they head to the Vitality Stadium to take on Bournemouth in the Premier League.

The Magpies opened their season with a 1-0 victory against Southampton at St James' Park, a win made to look even better given the fact they were down to 10 men in the first half, while the Cherries scored late to draw 1-1 at Nottingham Forest.

Newcastle to win - 6/5

It wasn't the easiest of opening matches for Newcastle, who had Switzerland international Fabian Schar sent off in the 28th minute at St James' Park and were forced to change their approach.

Brazilian midfielder Joelinton managed to find the back of the net just before the break before the Magpies then defended resolutely in the second period to ensure they clinched all three points in a hot-tempered affair.

That rearguard performance will have pleased boss Eddie Howe, especially after the defensive issues from last season, and his side will be full of confidence heading to the south coast.

Newcastle struggled on the road last term, winning just one of their opening nine away league assignments, but they improved on their travels as the campaign went on and won five of their last nine matches.

Barring a couple of absentees, the Magpies' squad is almost at full strength and they are well-stocked in the attacking department with the likes of Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes, Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy to choose from.

Hosts Bournemouth managed to scrape a 1-1 draw at Forest last time out - Antoine Semenyo grabbing an equaliser in the 86th minute - but they rode their luck with the Tricky Trees having eight shots on target from 14 attempts.

Dominic Solanke's departure to Tottenham has left a big hole to fill and while they have brought in Evanilson for a club-record fee, it remains to be seen how he will adapt to the Premier League.

But defence is the bigger worry and with no clean sheets kept in their last four top-flight games, the Cherries could be in for a disappointing result on Sunday.

Sean Longstaff to score any time - 7/1

Newcastle have plenty of attacking options at their disposal - Isak and Gordon the two biggest threats -  but one player that tends to get overlooked in the goalscoring market is Sean Longstaff.

The 26-year-old is often an unsung hero for the Magpies, with his endless amount of energy helping his team at both ends of the pitch, and he gets himself into fantastic scoring positions.

Last season, Longstaff had 41 attempts in the league, only three Newcastle players had more efforts, with 15 ending up on target and eight finding the back of the net.

He also scored once in the League Cup and, at 7/1 in the anytime market for Sunday's fixture, the Englishman offers huge value.

Adam Smith to be booked - 11/4

The last five meetings between these two clubs in all competitions have been feisty affairs, with a total of 18 yellow cards shown, and the pressing style that both employ contributes to cautions being handed out.

One player that could find himself in trouble is Bournemouth right-back Adam Smith, who did receive a yellow in this fixture back in February last year and has a habit of antagonising his opponents.

The 33-year-old will be up against the likes of Gordon and Isak, while the energetic Lewis Hall and Joelinton will also be operating down that side of the pitch, and he could be forced into making a rash challenge.
