Borussia Dortmund v SK Sturm Graz: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Beaten UEFA Champions League finalists last season, Borussia Dortmund again came unstuck against Real Madrid on matchday three, squandering a 2-0 lead to lose 5-2 in the Bernabeu.

They had previously defeated Club Brugge 3-0 before battering Celtic 7-1 and that latter scoreline could provide a clue when assessing Tuesday's visit of SK Sturm Graz.

The Austrian champions are again at the top of their domestic league - drawing 1-1 with second-place Rapid Vienna on Saturday -  but the gulf in class between the Austrian and German Bundesligas could be evidenced when they head to Dortmund.

Inconsistency under new boss Nuri Sahin has already seen the former midfielder's position at BVB questioned, but his side responded with a handy 2-1 weekend win over RB Leipzig and now sit fifth domestically.

Their two previous wins in this competition have them 11th in the UEFA Champions League standings, comfortably better off than Die Schwoazn, who are 32nd.

Defeats to Brest (2-1), Club Brugge (1-0) and Sporting CP (2-0) leave the Austrians still searching for their first point, a situation that looks unlikely to change on Tuesday evening.

Goals have been a feature of Dortmund's fixtures this season, with both teams scoring in eight of their last nine competitive matches, the odd one out being last week's 1-0 AET DFB Pokal defeat at Wolfsburg.

While Edin Terzic was criticised for failing to get the best out of his attacking players, defending with any structure has been the problem under Sahin.

SK Sturm Graz are among the weakest sides in the UEFA Champions League, but did manage a goal on their previous away trip against Brest.

With a home win and over 3.5 goals only 20/21, it might be worth pushing to that result and both teams to score.

That has been the outcome in Sahin's side's last five at BVB Stadion Dortmund, while over 4.5 goals to land in their third straight UEFA Champions League game is a handy 7/4.

Serhou Guirassy to score two or more - 3/1

Summer signing Serhou Guirassy has continued the form he showed at Stuttgart, shrugging off early concerns over a knee injury to net eight times in 11 appearances for Borussia Dortmund.

The 28-year-old's tally includes three in the UEFA Champions League, scoring a late penalty in the victory over Club Brugge before again netting from the spot as part of a double against Celtic.

Guirassy scored the winner against RB Leipzig to end a three-game mini-scoring drought and his brace against the Bhoys is worth noting.

With six of his eight goals coming at his new home stadium, the Arles-born star could be a multi-scorer for the third time in 2024/25.

Borussia Dortmund to score a penalty - 5/2

Guirassy's spot-kick success against Celtic was his team's second successful penalty in that game after Emre Can had opened the scoring after seven minutes.

They have converted four penalties at home this season and, with them likely to dominate the play on Tuesday, they could benefit from another spot-kick.

SK Sturm Graz conceded a stoppage-time penalty against Rapid at the weekend.

That, plus Der BVB's record from the spot, makes backing the hosts to again score from 12 yards out appeals.
