Borussia Dortmund v Paris Saint-Germain: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain will meet for the third time in this season's Champions League but the stakes could hardly be higher for the first leg of their semi-final tie at BVB Stadion Dortmund on Wednesday.

The two teams locked horns during the group stage, with PSG taking four points from those matches, but it was Dortmund that ended up topping the section.

BVB have then gone on to beat PSV Eindhoven and Atletico Madrid to make it through to their first Champions League semi-final in 11 years, while PSG are into the last four for the third time in five seasons after seeing off Real Sociedad and Barcelona in the knockout stages.

With a place in the final against either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid awaiting the winner of this tie, both teams will be aiming to secure a first-leg advantage to take into next week's reverse fixture in Paris.

Borussia Dortmund v Paris Saint-Germain betting tips and predictions

Over 3.5 goals in the match - 13/10

Both of these sides had to battle back from behind to win high-scoring quarter-final ties, with Dortmund prevailing 4-2 in the second leg of their clash with Atletico to come through 5-4 on aggregate, while PSG beat Barcelona 4-1 in Catalonia after losing the first leg of their last-eight clash 3-2 on home soil.

More of the same should now be expected in Germany on Wednesday with both sides boasting plenty of attacking talent but perhaps lacking at the back.

Dortmund have taken just one point from their two Bundesliga games since progressing into the semi-finals, most recently going down 4-1 at RB Leipzig, meaning two of their last three fixtures have featured over 3.5 goals.

Edin Terzic has also seen his side score in five consecutive games, but BVB are without a clean-sheet in six across all competitions.

It is a similar story for PSG, with over 3.5 goals proving a winning bet in each of their last five games, including both legs of their quarter-final tie with Barca.

Luis Enrique's side have also claimed 4-1 wins against both Lyon and Lorient over the last few weeks and most recently drew 3-3 with Le Havre.

That draw, coupled with Monaco's loss to Lyon on Sunday, saw PSG confirmed as Ligue 1 champions for the sixth time in seven seasons, which should add an extra spring to their step against Dortmund.

All the signs are that this first-leg clash will buck the trend of many semi-finals, which can often be cagey, and there is value to be had in backing four or more goals in the match.

Ousmane Dembele to score or assist - 21/20

Kylian Mbappe is an obvious candidate at 4/6 to score or assist for PSG on Wednesday, but there could be more value in looking at his fellow forward and former Dortmund star Ousmane Dembele in the same market at 21/20.

Dembele has already hurt one of his former clubs in this season's Champions League, providing two goals and an assist across the tie with Barcelona, and he could do the same against BVB.

The 26-year-old only spent one full season as a Dortmund player during the 2016/17 campaign, producing 10 goals and 21 assists before being snapped up by Barcelona.

With 19 goal involvements this season, Dembele remains a creative force and after only playing the first half of Saturday's draw with Le Havre, he should be fresh and raring to go on his return to BVB Stadion Dortmund, especially as he missed the group-stage match at the venue through suspension.

Ian Maatsen to be booked - 11/5

Dortmund defender Ian Maatsen has impressed since joining on loan from Chelsea in January, establishing himself as a regular in Terzic's starting XI.

The Dutchman provides plenty of attacking impetus from left-back, but he is also no stranger to referees, having been booked seven times in just 18 appearances for BVB.

That has seen Maatsen already serve a domestic suspension for accumulating five yellow cards in the Bundesliga, while if he were to be cautioned on Wednesday, then he would be banned for next week's return leg.

Maatsen certainly won't want to rule himself out of the trip to Paris, but his combative nature, coupled with the likelihood of him coming up directly against Dembele, would suggest that 11/5 for him to be booked is more than good value.
