Blackburn Rovers v Burnley: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Two teams eyeing a return to the Premier League clash in the Championship at Ewood Park on Saturday, when Blackburn Rovers take on Burnley.

Rovers sit seventh in the table heading into this contest, outside of the play-off positions on goal difference, while the second-placed Clarets are just three points behind leaders Leeds United.

Blackburn Rovers v Burnley betting tips and predictions

Draw - 12/5

Blackburn are in the midst of a disappointing run of form with just two points picked up from the last 12 on offer and they know an improvement is needed given the amount of teams queuing up behind them trying to get into the top six.

In fairness to Rovers, they have faced some tough opposition during this current four-game winless run, with draws recorded against Sunderland and Leeds, but they have also fallen to opponents they were fancied to defeat in Millwall and Hull City.

John Eustace's side did score a last-gasp equaliser at Elland Road on New Year's Day, grabbing a share of the spoils, and that should have provided a confidence boost ahead of this derby.

Blackburn boast the sixth-best home record in the Championship this season, collecting 23 points from 12 matches, with only Leeds, Watford, Sheffield United and Sunderland picking up more home wins than Rovers.

Rovers will need to rely on that strong Ewood Park record if they want to get anything from this visit of Burnley, who have the best away record in the league with 25 points amassed.

The Clarets have seven wins, four draws and two defeats from their 13 road assignments and they are on a six-game unbeaten run on their travels, most recently drawing 0-0 at Middlesbrough.

Burnley have been held to successive 0-0 draws in their last two outings, against Boro and then Stoke City, suggesting the busy fixture schedule is having an impact on their displays.

It ended 1-1 when these two met at Turf Moor back in August and another share of the spoils could be on the cards in Lancashire.

Both teams to score - No - 8/11

Given the superb defensive performances of Burnley, this is unlikely to be a goal-fest at Ewood Park and both teams not to score is the second selection offered up.

The Clarets have conceded a league-low nine times from 25 matches, seven better than the nearest challengers, while they also lead the clean sheets department with 16.

Scott Parker's side have kept out their opponents in the last three matches, blanking the Blades, Boro and Stoke, while they have also managed clean sheets in five of their last six away contests.

Burnley have conceded just five times on the road in total and it will be a tough challenge for Blackburn to find the back of the net, something they failed to do in their last home clash against Hull.

Rovers' matches over the last couple of months have tended to be hard-fought, tight affairs, with 12 of their last 15 league fixtures seeing both teams not to score land.

Expect another close battle between these two Lancashire rivals that is unlikely to see the net bulge at both ends.

Lewis Baker to be booked - 12/5

This could turn out to be a gritty contest between two well-drilled teams and it would be no surprise to see plenty of tackles flying in when these two fierce rivals clash, increasing the possibility of some cards being dished out.

Only Preston (70) and Stoke (63) have received more yellow cards than Blackburn (59) this season and one player that has been getting in the thick of things of late for Rovers is Lewis Baker.

Arriving at Ewood Park in the summer on a season-long loan from Stoke, the 29-year-old midfielder has made 15 appearances in all competitions and picked up two cautions.

Those two bookings have come in his last two appearances, the defeat to Hull and the draw against Leeds, and he could be set to complete a hat-trick of yellows on Saturday.

Baker's foul count from his last three matches is one, two and two, evidence that he is finding it difficult to keep away from the referee's attention.
