Blackburn v Ipswich: Tips, Predictions and Odds

Blackburn need to get the winning habit back to ease clear of any relegation worries though promotion-chasing Ipswich are going to take some stopping at Ewood Park.

Rovers find themselves heading into Easter with only three points between them and the dreaded drop-zone, while Ipswich battle with Leeds and Leicester for the automatic promotion places.

Blackburn v Ipswich betting tips and predictions

Ipswich & Over 2.5 Goals @ 15/8

Blackburn have been drawn firmly into the relegation picture after an eight-game winless streak and a brute of a run-in will have Rovers fans feeling very anxious.

John Eustace’s men have eight games to save themselves - and half of those are against the top four starting with this visit from Ipswich.

As for Ipswich, they have won seven of their last eight and it would have been eight out of eight had the referee blown for full-time after 90 minutes at Cardiff three weeks ago, the Bluebirds striking twice late to inflict a 2-1 loss on the Tractor Boys.

Ipswich just don’t look like stopping, will continue to play adventurous football home or away and given Rovers can’t keep a clean sheet, the visitors get the nod in a high scorer.

Eustace has taken charge of ten matches in all competitions since succeeding Jon Dahl Tomasson, winning the first - 3-1 against Stoke - but none since although seven have been draws, including against Newcastle in the FA Cup.

Their last four home matches have finished 1-1 - which is a 13/2 chance in correct score betting - but only Rotherham and Plymouth have conceded more shots on goal than Rovers and against a side as ruthless and efficient as Ipswich that spells real danger.

Eustace has finally had valuable training time with his squad though looks to be going into this game without key midfielders John Buckley and Joe Rankin-Costello.

They look utterly reliant on 21-goal Sammie Szmodics, who has 17 more goals than anyone else at the club.

Naturally, he scored in the 4-3 defeat at Portman Road in September, the sort of thrilling affair Ipswich fans are used to on their own patch. Seven sides have scored more than Ipswich away from home, though they have still won ten on the road and are in sizzling form.

Midfielder Massimo Luongo expects a different game than back in September suggesting Eustace will be more disciplined in his approach than Tomasson was.

But the simple truth is that this still looks like a game with goals in it - Rovers haven’t kept a home clean sheet since October - with Ipswich set to score more of them.

Leif Davis 1+ Shot on Target @ 11/4

There are goals from all over the park at Ipswich these days with 18 members of Kieran McKenna’s current squad having found the net in 2023-24.

One of those is assist king Leif Davis, a player best used to creating chances rather than taking them but well worth a punt at 11/4 to have a shot on target.

Davis’ one goal this season was three games ago in the 3-2 win over Bristol City. He had already laid on two assists - two of 14 for the season - for Ali Al Hamadi and Conor Chaplin before grabbing the winner and the glory.

A stand-out performer this season, he is a left-back in the modern, rampaging style and has got at least one shot away in all but one of Town’s last eight games.

Blackburn Over 4.5 Corners @ 5/6

You get a sense that one - or maybe both - of these sides will be chasing the game in the closing stages.

This is a crucial weekend in one team’s fight to stay in the division, while the other is hell-bent on going up automatically, so risks will be taken.

Blackburn’s 2-way corners total of 4.5 would look on the short side at the best of times but if, as the thinking goes, they are chasing this at some stage they should easily chalk up five of them.

They average 5.6 corners per home game while Ipswich concede 6.5 corners per away game on average, so the portents are good.
