Birmingham v Middlesbrough: Predictions, Tips and Odds

Two sides fighting at different ends of the Championship table meet at St Andrew's on Tuesday, when relegation-threatened Birmingham take on play-off chasing Middlesbrough.

The Blues are just one place and a point above the bottom three heading into the home encounter, but a victory would take them all the way up to 17th in the standings.

Boro are making a late push for the play-offs with two wins in a row, and a hat-trick of victories would cut the deficit to sixth-place Norwich to five points and further increase hope of a top-six finish.

Birmingham v Middlesbrough betting tips and predictions

Middlesbrough to win - 6/4

Middlesbrough are not out of the play-off picture and a third consecutive victory would see them move to within five points of Norwich in sixth, which means there is a lot riding on this game for this season's League Cup semi-finalists.

Boro have been impressive on the road this term, collecting 26 points to boast the sixth-best away return, and they will be confident of adding to that tally at Birmingham's expense.

St Andrew's has been a happy hunting ground for Michael Carrick's troops, who have five out of the last six trips to the West Midlands venue and last failed to score at the stadium in March 2012.

Tuesday's hosts, Birmingham, have been dragged into a relegation dogfight after picking up just one point from the last 12 on offer, a run of results that has them just one place above the bottom three.

Mark Venus has been in temporary charge for those four fixtures and he is struggling to cope with the demands of filling in for manager Tony Mowbray, who remains absent from the dugout.

It hasn't been the easiest run of games for Venus, who has seen his side lose 3-1 to Ipswich, 4-3 to Southampton and then draw 1-1 at Hull - all three of those opponents are challenging for either automatic promotion or the play-offs.

However, a trip to fellow strugglers Millwall at the weekend presented a chance to clinch a much-needed win, but the Blues fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at The Den.

Birmingham just don't seem to be clicking right now and their relegation fears look set to be increased by Middlesbrough, who can boost their top-six hopes with a victory.

Emmanuel Latte Lath to score anytime - 15/8

One player in good scoring form for Middlesbrough is Emmanuel Latte Lath, who is the club's joint-top goalscorer in the Championship with seven strikes to his name.

Two of those have come in his last two appearances, netting against Norwich and QPR, and the 25-year-old looks a big price to find the back of the net anytime on Tuesday.

Latte Lath has racked up 41 shots in the league, leaving him third in Boro's charts, while his record of 23 attempts on target is bettered by no player in the squad.

Ivan Sunjic to be booked - 3/1

Birmingham have been no stranger to getting stuck in and they have picked up no fewer than 91 yellow cards to date, only Ipswich and Stoke (both 93) have received more.

One player that has been a regular in the book is Ivan Sunjic, who has received nine cautions from 29 Championship appearances and is just one caution away from receiving a two-match ban.

The 27-year-old, who is second in his club's fouls charts with 47, has been booked three times in his last four appearances and he looks a prime candidate to fall foul of the referee again.
