Despite a minor wobble, Bayern Munich are still the pacesetters in this season's Bundesliga, having taken 33 points from a possible 42 so far.
And while they have dropped points against Borussia Dortmund and Mainz since the end of November, they are well-placed to take down Leipzig.
The Red Bulls have endured a miserable Champions League campaign this season and still have work to do in the German top flight heading into this match.
Bayern Munich to win and both teams to score - 11/8
Bayern Munich lost away to Mainz on Saturday but they will still finish 2024 on top of the Bundesliga standings and can sign off before the winter break with a win over Leipzig.
The Bavarians were restricted to just one shot on target away to Mainz and standards have slipped in recent weeks with the club also drawing with Borussia Dortmund and losing to Bayer Leverkusen.
But while their unbeaten record may have gone, Bayern Munich remain at the Bundesliga summit with 10 wins from their 14 matches and they are in a much stronger position than inconsistent Leipzig.
The Red Bulls are only six points adrift of Bayern in the league standings but their 3-2 loss to Aston Villa earlier this month meant they became the first club eliminated from the new-look Champions League.
They were also hammered 5-1 by Wolfsburg at the end of November and Marco Rose's future at the club is set to be discussed during the upcoming winter hiatus.
That said, Leipzig have twice beaten Eintracht Frankfurt this month, showing they can raise their game, and they can get on the scoresheet.
Bayern are lacking in the full-back positions with the likes of Sacha Boey, Hiroki Ito and Josip Stanisic out, while Konrad Laimer, who has been playing at right back, missed training this week.
They are without a clean sheet in their last five matches and Leipzig can find the net in defeat.
Jamal Musiala to score at anytime - 6/4
Harry Kane may have to settle for a spot on the bench for Bayern Munich after recovering from injury and there are other players that make an appeal in the goalscorer markets.
Deployed in the number 10 role, Musiala has been having a great season and scored a brace in Bayern Munich's last league game at the Allianz Arena.
That took the midfielder's league goal tally to eight in 12 matches, while he was also on target in the recent 5-1 mauling of Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.
This could be a high-scoring matchup and Musiala can capitalise.
Over 3.5 cards in match - 4/5
Having picked up only 18 yellow cards, Bayern Munich can boast one of the best disciplinary records in the Bundesliga this season but the card count could rise when they take on Leipzig.
Although it does not have the status and history of Der Klassiker, battles between Bayern and Leipzig can be fierce and their meeting back in February produced six yellow cards - three for each team.
Leipzig have picked up 27 yellow cards this season and over 3.5 cards in the match looks an enticing price at 4/5.
