Atalanta v Roma: Prediction, Tips and Odds

The battle for fifth place in Serie A continues on Sunday night as Roma make the trip to Gewiss Stadium to take on Atalanta.

There’s been very little to separate these two sides in the Italian top flight so far this season, with both teams sitting on 60 points and only Atalanta’s superior goal difference seeing them in fifth place going into this one.

Both teams were involved in the Europa League semi-finals this week but with contrasting fortunes, as Atalanta reached their first-ever European final with victory over Marseille.

Roma suffered a heartbreaking defeat to the unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen and will be licking their wounds as they make the trip to Bergamo on Sunday.

Atalanta v Roma betting tips and predictions

Draw - 11/4

There was nothing to separate the sides when they met at the Olimpico Stadium back in January, with a 1-1 draw being played out in the Eternal City.

It would be little surprise to see another stalemate between these evenly-matched teams, especially considering Roma’s recent form.

The Giallorossi are currently on a four-match winless run in all competitions, with three draws and one defeat in that time.

Roma drew their last two games against Juventus and Leverkusen and head coach Daniele De Rossi might settle for a point at the Gewiss Stadium this weekend.

It would still leave Roma in a good place to try and secure fifth place, with a home game against Genoa to complete their Serie A campaign.

Atalanta do have a game in hand, with matches at home to Juve and away at Lecce to follow.

A draw would be no disaster for either side and after their efforts in Europe recently, two weary teams might well play out a draw in this one.

Teun Koopmeiners anytime goalscorer - 11/4

Leading goalscorer for La Dea in Serie A this season with 12, Teun Koopmeiners has enjoyed a strong campaign for the Bergamo outfit.

The Dutchman found the back of the net in Atalanta’s last league game, with a goal that proved to be the winner in a 2-1 win on the road at Salernitana.

Koopmeiners has become a settled figure since making the move from AZ Alkmaar to Italy in 2021 and is a player who will be determined to make the Netherlands squad ahead of the European Championship in Germany this summer.

A strong end to the season for La Dea would certainly do his hopes of reaching Euro 2024 no harm and the midfielder is well priced to get on the scoresheet on Sunday.

Koopmeiners scored in the 1-1 draw the last time these teams met in Rome at the start of the year and is worth considering in the anytime goalscorer market.

Leandro Paredes to be booked - 13/10

It was a feisty affair the last time these teams faced off, with seven yellow cards brandished over the course of the game by referee Gianluca Aureliano at the Stadio Olimpico.

Marco Guida will be the man with the whistle this time around and the last time he refereed a Roma game in Serie A he showed eight yellow cards in the match.

Unsurprisingly, given his record this season, Leandro Paredes was one of the players to be booked that day and he is worth looking at in the card markets for Sunday’s game.

The 29-year-old Argentina has no less than 14 yellow cards to his name in Serie A this season and no player has received more than the South American.

With decent odds considering his record, Paredes to be booked once again this weekend is a hard one to pass up.
