Aston Villa's eight-game winless run across all competitions finally came to an end on Wednesday when they saw off Brentford 3-1 and they can follow up with victory over bottom club Southampton on Saturday.

Southampton have picked up a dismal five points from their 14 games so far, meaning they are seven points adrift of safety going into this round of fixtures.

Aston Villa to win and both teams to score - 13/8

Villa’s eight-game winless run included five defeats, but four of those losses occurred on the road and at their Villa Park home they’ve still been picking up results.

Unai Emery’s men are unbeaten in Birmingham in the Premier League since a 2-0 loss to Arsenal in their opening home assignment of the season, and they should have too much for rock-bottom Southampton.

Saints are the league’s worst travellers with just one point to show from seven away games so far, conceding 14 goals and scoring just four in the process.

After a fairly comfortable midweek win over Brentford at home, Villa should be able to back that up with another three points this weekend but a clean sheet is perhaps less likely.

Southampton managed to notch a consolation strike in a 5-1 loss to Chelsea on Wednesday and they have at least been scoring recently, only failing to net in two of their last 12 games across all competitions.

Villa have managed just one shut-out in their last nine games and have conceded in their last three home Premier League fixtures, while they concede on average 1.3 goals-per-game at Villa Park in this competition, so Southampton can at least strike in defeat. 

Ollie Watkins to score anytime - 10/11

Ollie Watkins scored from the spot for Aston Villa in their win over Brentford and looks the standout candidate for an anytime goal when Southampton visit on Saturday.

The England international has seven Premier League goals in 14 appearances this season and has three goals in his last five games for club and country.

Watkins will be on penalty duties at the weekend and is averaging 2.8 shots-per-game in the Premier League. The forward was also removed from the action midway through the second half against Brentford on Wednesday so he should come into this game fairly fresh.

Southampton have one of the worst defensive records in the Premier League with 30 goals conceded in just 14 games, and they may struggle to keep Watkins quiet this weekend.  

Adam Armstrong to be booked - 10/3

Southampton forward Adam Armstrong looks an intriguing outside option for a booking.

Armstrong was one of the stars of Southampton’s promotion campaign last season but he has been unable to make the same kind of impact in the Premier League and has already picked up four bookings after 11 games, having received just five in the entirety of last season.

Three of Armstrong’s yellow cards have come in his last six appearances, including a card in the defeat to Chelsea earlier this week.

The 27-year-old has four yellow cards in his last seven appearances across all competitions and has committed eight fouls in total across his last six Premier League games, so as a big price option he is worth some consideration to pick up a booking on Saturday.
