We have reached the business end of this year's Asian Cup with the two semi-finals set to take place this midweek.

Tuesday's match will see South Korea, led by Tottenham's Son Heung-min, take on Jordan as they look to move a step closer to ending their 64-year wait to lift a third Asian Cup.

Then, on Wednesday, hosts and defending champions Qatar will be in action against an Iran side that are fresh from eliminating tournament favourites Japan in the quarter-finals.

Iran do not have happy memories of Asian Cup semi-finals, as since lifting the trophy for the third time in 1976 on home soil, they have lost six times at this stage of the competition, most recently in 2019.

However, Amir Ghalenoei's current side are on an 18-match unbeaten run that dates back to the 2022 World Cup and they came from behind to knock out the much-fancied Japan in the quarter-finals of this competition.

Team Melli have also won six matches on the spin against semi-final opponents Qatar, a sequence that includes a 4-0 friendly success last October.

Qatar are also in good form, winning eight of their nine games since that loss to Iran in the autumn, while they could become just the third side this century to reach consecutive Asian Cup finals.
