Arsenal Women v Benfica Women Prediction: 49/50 Eagles could trouble Gunners

Arsenal Women's north London derby victory over Tottenham on Saturday ended a five-game winless streak in the Women's Super League - the longest in their history.

However, something still isn't quite clicking for the Gunners and Wednesday's UEFA Women's Champions League opponents Benfica are not a team they can afford to take lightly.

The sides met in the league phase of this competition last year, with Arsenal claiming a 2-0 victory in Portugal, but they may have to work hard to repeat that kind of result in Borehamwood.

Arsenal Women v Benfica Women Prediction

Best Bet: Benfica Women +2.0 on Asian handicap @ 49/50

Arsenal Women sit fifth in the early league phase standings after a win and a draw, but they have been far from convincing.

They needed an injury-time penalty to see off Danish side Koge in their opening match before throwing away a 2-0 lead away to Paris FC on matchday two.

The Gunners were ante-post favourites for the Women's Super League, but they are already 10 points off the lead after seven matches.

They beat Tottenham 2-1 at the weekend but the winning goal was via a controversial penalty, and ended a five-match winless run that included draws against promoted sides Birmingham and Crystal Palace.

Benfica, the perennial Portuguese champions, are a perfect three from three domestically. The 2024 UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-finalists were winless in the league phase last season, but have already bettered that performance this year.

Having lost 2-1 to Juventus in their opening match last season, they turned around that scoreline on matchday one of this campaign and held Bayern Munich at bay for 74 minutes before losing 3-0.

There is a lot of pressure on Arsenal, who still have to face both of last year's finalists Barcelona and OL Lyonnes, as well as Inter Milan, and Benfica may well feel they can nick a decent result.

Alternative Bet: Both teams to score @ 5/6

Clean sheets have not been a problem for Benfica domestically, but they have conceded in all of their last 10 European outings and look likely to extend that run.

Both teams have found the net in Arsenal's last four matches, while they have conceded in each of their last five. Benfica have scored 14 goals over their last three outings and look to have a great chance of getting on the scoresheet as well.

Arsenal's attack suffered a frustrating start to the season but they have scored twice in three of their last four matches.

Star striker Alessia Russo has found her shooting boots with six goals in her last six matches for club and country.

While Russo played the full 90 minutes against Tottenham on Saturday, Rene Slegers is likely to start her most dangerous asset in an important game.

Benfica's Nycole Raysla came off the bench in Benfica's first two UEFA Women's Champions League matches, but she has scored in her last four domestic outings.

The Brazil international scored three goals over her last two games and, as a possible penalty taker, looks good for a shot on target at least.
