Arsenal v Newcastle United: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Arsenal host Newcastle United in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg on Tuesday in what should be an entertaining encounter at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners are favourites to claim a first-leg lead, but the Magpies are in fine form and Eddie Howe's side look good enough to secure a valuable draw.

Arsenal v Newcastle United betting tips and predictions

Draw - 29/10

Arsenal and Newcastle will both be targeting at least a top-four Premier League finish this season, but they also have Wembley in their sights in the EFL Cup.

After beating Bolton Wanderers, Preston North End and Crystal Palace to reach the last four, Mikel Arteta will be hoping his side can secure a first-leg lead before the return game at St James' Park next month.

However, the Magpies will be determined to stay on course for silverware as Howe looks to become the first Newcastle manager to win a major trophy since they triumphed in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup way back in 1969.

Both managers are likely to make changes for the first leg, but plenty of first-team regulars are still expected to feature and this should be an entertaining clash.

Newcastle are in fine form, winning their last six games in all competitions, and recent stand-out victories at Manchester United and Tottenham mean they will approach the trip to the Emirates without any fear.

Howe's men have already beaten the Gunners this season, winning 1-0 at home in the league in November, and a draw in the first leg will be viewed as a positive result with the second leg to come at home.

Arsenal were disappointing, particularly in the second half, when being held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton on Saturday and, with Newcastle flying, the best the hosts might be able to hope for is another draw on Tuesday.

Over 1.5 Newcastle goals - 9/4

Newcastle look very capable of netting at least twice at the Emirates considering their attacking options.

Alexander Isak has been one of the players of the season and took his goal tally up to 14 in all competitions when getting on the scoresheet at Spurs on Saturday.

That was the seventh Premier League game running in which the Sweden international has scored in, but he's not the only player who can hurt the Gunners in this semi-final.

Anthony Gordon was also on target at the weekend, registering his fifth of the campaign, while Harvey Barnes also has five goals this season and Joelinton has weighed in with four.

Sandro Tonali to score anytime - 15/2

Sandro Tonali has caught the eye for Newcastle in recent weeks as he has formed a formidable midfield triumvirate alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.

The Italian's class in the middle of the park has been evident as he's helped the Magpies' embark on their fine winning run and he will be a key man in the second half of the campaign.

Tonali has yet to score in the Premier League this season, but he did bag a brace against Brentford in the quarter-finals of this competition and he could be a value pick in the goalscorer market on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old has had at least at least one shot in his last eight games for the Tynesiders, racking up 16 in total in that period.
