Arsenal v Manchester United: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Arsenal have gone on a goals spree since returning from the last international break and will be hoping to maintain their free-scoring form at home to a rejuvenated Manchester United.

United are unbeaten in seven as they strive to get into the battle for the top four but will have to improve again if they are to put the brakes on Arsenal.

Arsenal & Over 2.5 Goals - 21/20

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal have burst into scoring life since the international break and that spells danger for Manchester United.

Since returning from two weeks off in mid-November the Gunners have beaten Nottingham Forest 3-0, won 5-1 at Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League and on Saturday evening scored five first-half goals in a 5-2 thrashing of West Ham United at the London Stadium.

Runners-up in each of the last two seasons they - and the rest - have given Liverpool quite a start this time round.

But Arsenal clearly mean business and that attacking zip, missing in Martin Odegaard's injury-enforced absence, is back and standing them in good stead.

Arteta's side have not lost at home since April, have scored in all 12 games at their ground since, scoring at least twice in 10 of those.

They look a cut above most sides and certainly a class higher than Manchester United, hence it's hard to argue with the 4/9 quote about the London giants.

United have had an indifferent start to the season and even their start to life under Ruben Amorim hasn't been perfect.

His first game was a disappointing 1-1 draw at Ipswich, they then pipped Bodo/Glimt 3-2 in the UEFA Europa League and even Sunday's thumping of Everton was far from a 4-0 performance as acknowledged by the manager afterwards. They were flattered by the scoreline.

Amorim is changing the system and - hopefully for the sake of United fans - the mindset and it's hard to quibble overly with the start he has made.

But he does have tweaks to make at the Emirates with Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo suspended. And they have had 24 hours less to prepare for this clash.

They are packed with attacking power which Amorim is hoping to unleash in the way Erik ten Hag did not and the signs are promising. But so too are Arsenal - and they have more of it.

The Gunners have to like their chances and it's hard to see United's newly constructed back three holding out. Arsenal and Over 2.5 goals at 21/20 represents a decent way in.

Martin Odegaard Over 0.5 Shots on Target - 11/10

The return of Martin Odegaard has been a huge factor in Arsenal's recent revival.

The Norwegian didn't appear in either of the Premier League losses at Bournemouth or Newcastle and played virtually no part in the UEFA Champions League defeat at Inter Milan.

But he's been back at the heart of the side during their superb trio of wins over Forest, Sporting and West Ham, scoring from the penalty spot on Saturday night against the Hammers.

Against Forest and West Ham he had two shots each, with three of the four on target.

He is averaging 1.5 shots per game in the Premier League and looks a pretty fair price at 11/10 to get just one on target against United.

Matthijs de Ligt Over 59.5 passes - 5/6

Matthijs de Ligt is going to be a busy man defensively at the Emirates but he will still have a role to play in trying to take the steam out of the Gunners.

United love to play their way out from the back and will get plenty of opportunities to do just that with Arsenal sure to force no end of goal kicks.

In three games under Amorim, the Dutch defender has clocked up 81 passes against Ipswich, 100 against Bodo/Glimt and 65 against Everton.

Against Bodo/Glimt he played only 66 minutes, against Everton just 56, taken off against the Toffees with the game already won and one eye on this fixture.

Clearly United are going to see less of the ball than in any of those three games but De Ligt can still rack up 60 passes, and doubtless many more if he plays the full 90.
