Arsenal v Ipswich Town: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Arsenal won 5-1 at Crystal Palace in their final Premier League fixture before Christmas and they are hot favourites to beat Ipswich Town at the Emirates Stadium on Friday.

Arsenal to win & under 3.5 goals - 5/4

Arsenal cannot afford many more slip-ups if they are to overhaul Liverpool and Chelsea at the top of the Premier League and they are red-hot favourites to claim a home win over Ipswich Town.

The Gunners beat Crystal Palace 3-2 in last week's EFL Cup quarter-final before an impressive 5-1 league victory over the Eagles at Selhurst Park.

That success came at a hefty price, however, as winger Bukayo Saka suffered a hamstring injury that will keep him on the sidelines for several weeks.

Arsenal lost their attacking fluency when skipper Martin Odegaard was injured earlier in the season and they must find a way to maintain their goal threat while the influential Saka is missing.

They were frustrated in their last home league fixture, a 0-0 draw with a dogged Everton side, and a low-scoring win against Ipswich could be on the cards.

Mikel Arteta hopes that Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus, who scored five goals in last week's league and cup wins over Palace, can step up in Saka's absence.

His side have been defending well at home, beating Nottingham Forest 3-0, Manchester United 2-0 and Monaco 3-0 before the stalemate with Everton.

Ipswich's top scorer Liam Delap is back from a ban but he faces a tough battle with Arsenal centre-backs Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba.

Both of the Tractor Boys' wins on their return to the Premier League have come away from home as they beat Tottenham and Wolves, both by a 2-1 scoreline.

But Ipswich have lost four of their last five matches, including a 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest and a 4-0 loss at home to Newcastle, so backing Arsenal to win and under 3.5 goals looks a solid bet.

Declan Rice to have a shot on target - 6/4

Declan Rice came off the bench to score his first Premier League goal of the season against Crystal Palace last time out and he is a tempting price to have a shot on target on Friday.

The Arsenal midfielder's long-range shooting is one of his strengths and he scored twice in four Nations League appearances for England in the autumn.

Ipswich will attempt to frustrate their hosts' intricate build-up play so Rice's ability to strike from distance could be a useful weapon for Arsenal.

He has had eight shots in his last four league appearances, despite playing only 62 minutes against Everton and 32 minutes at Palace, and he should be backed to test Ipswich keeper Arijanet Muric.

Kalvin Phillips to be shown the first card - 7/1

Ipswich captain Sam Morsy is suspended for the trip to Arsenal after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.

Kalvin Phillips is expected to take Morsy's place in the midfield battle and he is worth backing to receive the first booking of the game.

Phillips has not played regular football since leaving Leeds for Manchester City in 2022 and he had a tough loan spell at West Ham at the start of 2024.

He was sent off for two bookable offences in the Hammers' defeat at Nottingham Forest in February and can expect a testing shift against a powerful Arsenal midfield featuring Rice, Odegaard and Thomas Partey.

Phillips was booked at Brighton in his first away appearance for Ipswich and was sent off in the 1-1 draw with Leicester at Portman Road on 2nd November.

His only league outing since that dismissal was a 28-minute substitute appearance against Newcastle last time out and any rustiness could be exposed against a top-class Arsenal side.
